My dreams came true wen the Patriots beat St. Louis in the Super Bowl... the Saints should have really made the playoffs last year. Aaron Brooks, Deuce McCalaster, Joe Horn, Dante Stallworth... they have all the keys to b a playoff team this year.

I'm only going by the stats that I've viewed, there's the odd chance that I'll see some of the games from the forthcoming season but because the show starts at 12am over here I have to wait for the repeats.

To me, stats are crap. I mean, a team can have great stats, like the David Boston's team, but the team is bad. That's my opinion.

Hey, I know they have great players man. But it's a longshot. And preseason to me means nothing. Titans won very little in preseason last year and started with a 1-4 record. And they made it to the playoffs with a bye.

I might not be an American, I wasn't brought up watching your version of football and I am not biased, but I do know the NFL.
This thread is called "NFL Predictions" and I made my prediction without any prior knowledge as to what the reporters have been saying, to me the impression you're giving is that you hate the Patriots because you are biased. When you say that stats don't mean anything you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

Obviously he doesnt have any idea Thor... hes one of those Green Bay fans who thinks the Packers are number 1 each year... but they always just make the playoffs and then just exit in the first or second round. He doesnt pay much attention to other teams in the NFL obviously... if he did he would see that theres a lot better teams this year than the Green Bay Packers.

49ers all the way. the Rams game impressed me. for the first time in a long time, we played like we weren't scared of them. taking them to overtime on their field was great. if cedrick wilson had gotten down and called a timeout, we may have won it with a field goal. bottom line is we are looking good. i didn't like firing Steve Mariucci but Dennis Erikson may work out after all. i can't wait to meet the Rams in San Fran.

VIKES 3-0!! My only concern is Culpepper won't be able to play. If Gus is in there.. that 49er pass rush could really make it a bad day for the vikings. Hell... if D.C. does play.. he may be too banged up to move around like he will need to. I want 4-0 but my prediction... sadly... is 3-1 for the vikes after this week.
I'll cross my fingers though.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but the Vikes have beaten some of the worst teams in the NFL right now and have one of the weakest divisions. They don't have a truly dominant running game, and if you shut down Moss, you have taken away a large part of their offense. I don't think the Vikes have the depth to take it all the way this year. They are getting much better though.
Rational_1
10-03-2003, 10:32 PM
You are forgetting the Vikes also have a good running game(which may get even better in a month or so) and decent defense this year.
I am a Seahawks fan myself but The Vikes, The Chiefs, the Colts and the Bills all stand a good chance of going all the way if you ask me.
I think the Broncos are good too but I do not see "the Snake" being able to carry them when Clinton "I hurt myself inhaling!" Portis is out for extended durations.
Miami has a shot as long as Ricky stays healthy and they remember to use him instead of getting the stupid idea in their heads that Fiedler can win 'em games in a shoot-out with other QBs.
My sleeper pick would be The Bengals, as funny as that sounds.I rememebr when Kitna was the QB here in Seattle and would occasionally get on a hot streak and almost single-handedly win 4 or 5 games, lose a couple, then win a few more.As weird as the NFL has been the last few years, I can see the Bengals turning things around mid season and finishing 9-7 and maybe getting into the playoffs.

Spoken like someone who truly knows nothing about the NFL. The Bengals? Please, they suck this year, and don't have a decisive team that has a strong leader. Miami has no strong quarterback and Ricki isn't going to take them all the way alone. The Vikes do have a weak division, and the Bills are struggling at 2-2. The Chiefs are a great team this year, but Plummer is playing great ball right now. He's one of the highest rated QB's in the league currently, but I agree, there is still a lot of unknowns about how well he will hold this. Portis will be fine, and I think the Colts are good, but Dungy can't take them all the way. I pick them to go deep into the playoffs, but not all the way to the big game. Seahawks have an unknown factor in Hassleback, he's good, but is he good enough to win the big one?

I have been watching NFL football (fairly religiously)since before MOST of the current players were born(likely before YOU were born).I often go undefeated in my fantasy football leagues and almost ALWAYS win them.So I know a little bit about the NFL junior.
The Bengals? Please, they suck this year, and don't have a decisive team that has a strong leader.
The Bengals were my SLEEPER PICK(you DID read the post you quoted right?I mean you don't just start flaming people without understanding what you are flaming them abouyt do you?:rolls eyes:
ANYONE can take a look at who is in good shape right now(Broncos, Chiefs, Colts etc.) and make not-so-bold predictions about how well they will do and like I SAID:I DO believe the Chiefs or Vikes or Bills are likely to win the whole shebang.
HOWEVER, I am saying the Bengals are MY SLEEPER PIC TO DO WELL/BETTER THAN EXPECTED(as stated in the post you misunderstood).A few years back I predicted at teh beginning of the Season that the Patriots would win the superbowl adn Priest Holmes would overtake Marshall Faulk as the NFL's leading RB.I got flamed over that too by people like you(self-proclaimed NFL experts).
Miami has no strong quarterback and Ricki isn't going to take them all the way alone.
So you are repeating what I said???I thought I did not know anything about the NFL??Why copy me then?
In any case The Ravens won a superbowl year before the Pats did and look who they had for QB.Also look at who the defending SB champs are and who THEIR QB is(Brad is not bad at all but he is no better than Fiedler).
Miami has something that Tampa did not have(as well as having a good defense)...a RUNNING GAME!They can get an early lead and then control the clock.Ricki is not only a workhorse but one who is almost impervious to injury.
The Vikes do have a weak division, and the Bills are struggling at 2-2. The Chiefs are a great team this year, but Plummer is playing great ball right now. He's one of the highest rated QB's in the league currently, but I agree, there is still a lot of unknowns about how well he will hold this.
Plummer is still inconsistent. He got off to a good start by relying on Portis and Anderson to set up the running game allowing him to lob it up for their WRs to make plays. There will come a time when Denver falls behind in the second half and Plummer will feel the pressure of trying to win the game himself and he will turn the ball over.Luckily for the Broncos they are fairly muti-dimensional and can win games in more ways than one.
Portis will be fine,
Portis has not finished a game yet this season adn he will not start in week 5.He is not a very big back so I would be concerned if I were Shannighan.
and I think the Colts are good, but Dungy can't take them all the way.
They have much bigger things to worry about than Dungy.IF Edge doesn't get healthy, stay healthy adn show that his early succes he had in his first few seasons was not a fluke, then they will be in trouble at some point.Dungy is a good coach and it is because of him that the defense is what it is now(GOOD!).HE has never been good at assessing the running game though.BAck in TB when Alstott was running over defenses like the Juggernaught everytime he got the ball, Dungy still went back to Warrick Dunn(who was serviceable at best).Fullback or not Alstott is the absolute best north-south runner in the game and Dungy was foolish not to exploit that just as he is foolish not to re-evaluate the Colts' running game and Edge's place(or absence) in it.
I pick them to go deep into the playoffs, but not all the way to the big game. Seahawks have an unknown factor in Hassleback, he's good, but is he good enough to win the big one?
Time will tell.He spent the early part of his career backing up a QB who was NEVER INJURED(guy named Favre or something...think he plays for Green Bay;)) and then alternating between back-up and starter in Seattle when they had the worst defense in the NFL and no offensive line, so he was bound to struggle. This was to be his make or break year and so far he is making it.In my mind playing Green Bay IN GREEN BAY is the ultimate test!If he pulls out a win there, I think his future is set.
Johnnys Apples
10-04-2003, 02:12 PM
Playing Green Bay in Green Bay hasn't proven to be the ultimate test so far this year. By the way Hasselbeck only backed up Favre for 1 year (his rookie year). Hardly stuck behind someone his whole career. I don't think Seattle will break it's curse, not this year. Good move though on the part of Holmgren to finally realize he is not GM material and relenquish that job to someone else.

1)It WILL be a test for Seattle though.Holmgren USED to be the coach in GB and both teams have players who were traded from the other team(Ahman Green was traded by Seattle for a couple of scrubs basically).
Also, Seattle has NEVER gone 4-0 in their entire existence and have a reputation for inconsistency/being "streaky".Despite Green bay's stumbles this year they are STILL a good team adn with Favre and Green they are at least CAPABLE of beating any team in the NFL.If you think Seattle is just going to walk in there and take a victory from a sleeping Packer team, you're off your rocker. They struggled with the lowly Rams(barely beating them at HOME!) adn I do not expect any less playing AT Lambeu.
2)WHo said anything about Hasslebeck's "whole career"?Come on...say it with me now :"I'm sorry for trying to put words in your mouth."For some reason I DID think Hasselbeck was in GB for two years but still, it's not like I said "Hasselbeck spent years and years backing up Favre.".You are reading too much into what I say.
3)Not only is Holmgren not GM material, he is not really coaching material the more I think about it.This is a man who benched Alexander in 2001 because he thought Ricky Watters gave them the best chance of winning being a veteran and then started Hasselbeck over Dilfer(when Dilfer was on a VERY hot streak) because he thought Hasselbeck was "younger" and the "future of the Seahawks".
Holmgren also(like Martz in St. Louis) seems to be stuck on this idea that you can have a passing game WITHOUT having a running game. The Hawks are just about unbeatable when Alexander gets 25-30 carries a game but Holmgren's ego(or plain stupidity) blinds him to this.
Rational_1
10-05-2003, 03:30 PM
And what do you know...just went and looked up Hasselbeck's career stats and it seems he backed up Favre for his first TWO seasons in GB, NOT just his rookie season.
So far you are not exactly batting 1000 against the guy who "truly knows nothing about the NFL".
Also The packers are blowing out the Hawks(unfortunately) in the 3rd quarter so I guess GB was more of a "terst" than you figured eh?

Colts aren't that good huh? Not many teams can erase a 21 point deficit in the 4th quarter against Tampa Bays defense.

Colts were amazing. Never seen a game like that( I am even including the playoff game where the Bills came back and scored 5 billion points against Warren Moon's Oilers).
Vikes sucked the first half against the Falcons but then really clicked and dominated.
5-0 baby!!
Vikes never get their proper respect. They can't run?
Fine.
Take away Moss and you can't win?
Hell. I don't think I will disagree... but seriously... taking Moss away from the Vikes is like asking the rest of the league to punt on third downs.
See you in the Super Bowl.
