I'm getting a PS2...what two games should I buy?

GTA3 is better then VC....
If some of the features from VC (bikes, helicopters, diving out of cars) were in GTA3, there would be no need for anymore GTA games on any of the 3 consoles.

Yes GTA3 may be better but it only seems better because we have played it...Given the choice i would go for GTA3, only because i have played them both to death...If i was new to the franchise i would probably pick VC mainly becausem it is newer, bigger and get a better rating than GTA3...being a fan of the series i would choose GTA3.
Saying that if that stuff was included we wouldnt need anymore GTA games is not really right...Sure if that stuff was included it would increase the playability of GTA3, but we would eventually get bored of it...Released almost 2 years ago now, VC stopped people being bored of the GTA routine...The next game will stop people being bored of VC while, improving generally on what VC made wrong...I.e..Setting it in the 80's...A great idea, but lost the feeling for me. Making it less of an enclosed city...The great thing about GTA3 was the city was so realistic..kind of...It was thriving...the size of Vice City makes it feel kind of empty to me.

i dont really agree on that statement... i mean yea rent it but it gets kinda boring after a while.... just my thought....:)

Just my opinion, but "Medal of Honor: Frontline" puts GTA Vice City to shame.

Quite possibly the best 1st person shooter since "Goldeneye".

On PS2, IMO the points of MOHFL come down due to the lack of Mulitplayer...Single player it is great and captures the feel of the period very well.

Yeah, GTA3 was the most original game made in the past 10 years. GTA:VC is more of an expansion pack then a NEW game...

Um... but it's a new PS2 owner, meaning he hasn't played either probably. So theres no point in buying GTA3, for exactly that reason, because VC is an expansion of the other.

And besides the fact that in your opinion it gets boring, it provides a lot more gameplay time than your average game. And it's true, not owning it is usually uncommon with a PS2 owner. And it's good fun when you got nothing else to do, due to it's wide open city of gameplay.

Bored... just pop in that sucker. Theres' not set back, load or anything. You just go about your business with it. Of course it gets boring after awhile, so does a million other games. It's the single player that usually takes awhile.

And the game still rocks... anyone who says otherwise is just a PS2 downer. And watch them praise it once it's Xbox release, lol.

History man....histoy. You got to know what GTA is all about. What probably made this game, how do you put it, the most popular game on the PS2 was GTA3. I could suggest that he gets GTA (the first one) but I'm not going to be harsh. Just start him off slow and then work his way up to GTA: Vice City. :)

Doesn't really matter I think. VC is a better version for gameplay and graphics really, and story. But GTA3 is more appealing in style.

VC is set before GTA3..therefore logic would say...play VC first as that is the history...You learn much more of the Forellis is VC then u do in GTA3

I think doing the opposite will kill the experience. GTA3 was ment to be played first.

If you play Vice City first, you'll go down to GTA3, with a non talking character and lesser story line, worse gameplay and graphics. It just doesn't make sense.

Play GTA3 and enjoy the cool experience. Then play Vice City and enjoy the new changes.

Or dont play GTA3 at all, If u take VC at face value u wont need to play GTA3...Only for the experience..which when done u will want to return to VC as it is bigger and has better stuff...

Why would you want to return to it? . You've already played. Sure it'll be fun but it will get boring cause you know what is already going to happen. It's best if you play GTA3 first. It may be bigger but GTA3 is the original.....the origins of it. The first GTA game on the PS2.

Ur point is very...wierd...VC is bigger with better features than GTA3...The GTA games are built so after u have completed them u can roam and do whatever u want...Surely having a bigger place and better veichles is the best place to do that

Well basically...U said GTA3 was the first one on the PS2...therefore going on reviews and such, Vice City is better for size and veichles...Also u said "why would u return to it"...People dont return to a GTA game for the story..But for the unrivalled freedom the game offers...GTA3 offered lots of freedom...VC offers lots more IMO

I'm gonna sort out this GTA debate right now!! Vice City is set years before GTA, so you could call it a prequel so if you want to play them in chronological order based on the games, you should start with VC, GTA, GTA2 and then GTA3.

And clever Rockstar games are releasing Vice City on the XBOX but without the GTA name on it

Even though GTA3 is the first game on the PS2 platform VC takes place before GTA3. It has batter graphics, more cars and more security. Just rent them and see which one you like. That sounds like a good solution.
