That's exactly what happens! There's no explanation necessary.

I was let down. Definetly my least favorite P. T. Anderson film. I'm glad I seen it, but I probably wouldn't watch it again.

It was just a cheaply made artsy film. And well done too. It was inspired from a true story about a man who collected a ton of pudding packs and is now flying basicly free for the rest of his life.
I just was watching it for the style. The story wasn't terribly strong, more emotional, sentimental crap and a needy helping of characters. It also paved way to show (and the point of doing it in the first place) that Adam Sandler can do serious movies. Because that's what he's been wanting to do.

Just watched it last night, wasn't expecting what it became but I enjoyed it. Different and would watch another Sandler drama.

honestly, i think adam sandler had more of an anger management problem in this film than in Anger Management.
i thought the story was splendid. the cinematography was amazing and the acting was some of sandler and watson's best.
think of it. you have this guy who is a complete weirdo. doesn't go out much except to buy pudding snack so he can fly cheaply. he has some strange quirks but he does things out of the ordinary because of the love he finds in emily watson's character.

we know you do...thats why we love ya
but anyways, exactly radiohead, i thought this movie was freakin awesome, and it made a lot of sense
like he said, that anger that comes out of him comes from love, like at the end when he kicks everyones ass, thats not just the director putting adam sandler comedy into the movie, thats what he wanted and he pulled it off very nicely.
i loved adam sandlers character in this, everything form the little spasms he has to the pudding he finds.
good movie, kinda short, but still good. 8/10

i hate it when people talk about how this movie is so artistic and so imaginative and all of that crap, this movie was way too long, i mean absolutley nothing happened in the beginning. things only started happening after he goes out on a date with emily watson, this movie isnt half as good as everyone says, with that said i loved the second half of this movie, i mean the part where those guys crash there car into his and he goes after them because she was hurt, that was one of the coolest scenes i have ever seen. this movie is over rated but comes back in the second have and has some really great scenes. also i am a fan of magnolia, not in the obsessed sort of way but i thought it was a very interesting film

Great movie. It's just simply strange. But I do feel there could have been more, as it stands the love story is great, but the phone sex subplot has nothing to really do with the movie. It's just there. But with that said, the subplot was pretty funny (especially the end with the Matress King).

The movie is 90 minutes plus 5 minutes of credits. Nothing wrong with the length. Was it slow? Yeah but it pays off in the end.

I didn't find it slow at all......The pacing was perfect, considering what kind of movie it was.

First of all, like slinger said, this movie not long at all, I thought it was short as hell considering Magnolia was over 2 and a half hours long and Boogie Nights was up there too. When it ended I wanted more, not saying I didn't like it, but in the way that I loved it so much that I wish it went on.
I remember looking down at the timer and it saying 90 something minutes, I was like what the dillio?
And second, it was really artistic and imaginate and "all that crap", everything from the acting, to the music, to the way it was shot.
I'm not saying I'm obsessed with this movie, I just wish it got more credit for what it is, and I wish Sandler got more credit for his role in it.
And also I like Paul Thomas Anderson movies, cause they're different

I remember feeling disappointed the movie was so short, especially compared to some of the uber-lengthy crud Hollywood likes to put out there.

I saw this movie a couple months ago, so I don't really remember the whole thing. But I do remember that the music was used really well. Like there was a part when someone(one of the sister's) kept on talking and the music was really frantic and I felt like my head was gonna explode I just wanted to shout "SHUT UP!".

its just a love story, a bad tempered strange man (sandler) falls for a softly spoken nice girl (watson) and like all P T Anderson movies it has more little stories then u can shake a stick at. Good prefomances, good story, great movie

what i meant by it being to long was that it took way too long to tell a story that could have been told in half the time. 90 minutes is by no means a long movie, i now, however that statement preceeded my elaboration, in that it took too long to get to the actual story, i did enjoy this movie it was just too long of a movie for the story being told in it, and i reiderate my point when i say that i hate it when people talk about how artistic and creative it is, i mean when you think about it having a shot on somebody for 5 minutes straight is much less creative than getting a bunch of different angles on it, however i did like a lot (not all) of the cinematography, i thought some of it was just too flashy and attempting to get people to think it is artistic when it is actually very contrived.

Actually, I really enjoyed this. One of my favorite movies of last year and it let me look at Adam Sandler a different way. I usually can't stand him but I think he gave an amazing overlooked performance. Sure, there was a lot of weird stuff but it really stands up to multiple viewings for me. Not as good as Boogie Nights, but definitely more interesting than Magnolia.
As a matter of fact, here's a funny editorial I wrote around the time that Punch DRunk Love came out, comparing it to...of all things....Jackass: The Movie. I remember how much I enjoyed Punch Drunk Love and then a few days later, Jackass had this amazing opening weekend, and I remember thinking that it was the beginning of the end for Hollywood. And that was long before "The Real Cancun" and "From Justin to Kelly" :)

(Heh, I just reread this thing for the first time since I wrote it and there's actually a really interesting potentially moneymaking idea in there that I forgot about. <G>)

P-DL blew me away. I saw it for the first time a couple weeks ago and I'm pissed I missed it in theatres. I just wasn't interested at the time.
Sandler in his best performance in one of my favorite films.
Such great cinematorgraphy and storytelling, I was amazed. The pacing wasn't slow AT ALL, what are you guys smoking, pass that ****..

Very well written, EDouglas. You articulated my thoughts almost perfectly. While I found like one part of Jackass funny (one of my friends showed me clips) I would love it if a move like P-DL could rise above it and claim commercial success.
