I was rewatching it via Kazaa and I think I figured out what went wrong with it. The movie starts out perfectly...it is classic American Pie...it even had the heart the first two movies had (the restraunt scene is what I'm referring to)...then the rest of the movie starts...and Jim and Michelle and pretty much everyone are brushed off to the side. They are nothing more but supporting cast for Stiffler...and that is what went wrong...granted, Stiffler was a big part of the first two, but he wasn't the central character...and thats why American Wedding hurt...the central characters (Jim, Oz, Finch, Kevin) are the ones who gave the first two it's heart...which seperates American Pie from other teen movies...defenders will say that all American Pie has ever been is dick and fart jokes...but that couldn't be further from the truth. American Pie and AP2 had heart....American Wedding was just another teen comedy.

The biggest thing that probably hunt it was the R rating.

i have to agree with u about stifler cause he was the main character but for some reason the whole movie still gelled for me.

I thought the dancing duels in the gay bar were classic by the way.

Was it just me or did stifler seem different in this one?

I didn't have any problems with the movie. I laughed my butt off and thought it was just as good as the first two.

And Stifler seems to have a little more maturity this time around. A LITTLE is the key phrase, not a lot. ;)

it wasn't the r rating that hurt it because the first two were rated r. i don't think it was a bad movie for a third in the series, also alot of the original cast didn't want to return. i know a lot of people were disappointed that oz wasn't in this one. they did show a lot of the stifler character, and they didn't have a lot of use for the kevin character this time, but i still thought it was a good movie. i don't think there is anything wrong with it other then that.

I'm not saying it was bad, It was a funny teen comedy...but American Pie shouldn't be just a teen comedy...it should have heart...this one lacked it. And it seems to me that is because it focused so much on Stiffler and so little on everyone else.

In regards to the lack of Oz, I agree that hurt the movie, they could've explained it so easily, just Kevin saying something like "too bad Ozzy can't get a leave from the army" or something along those lines.

Great movie. Stifler is in it quite a lot but the others are still in it quite a lot. Jim's Dad is my favourite :D

LACK OF THE SHERMINATOR!!!! I thought this one was awesome, it had more heart than the first two it seemed like. Stifler is so stupid its awesome, and he made a good central character.

What I meant by the R rating was a lot of young people saw the first two outside the theater on television or DVD and VHS and liked it. The probably wanted to see this movie but were too young.

I liked it... I think maybe they could have brought back some more characters but dont know how it would have helped the story ( with the wedding thing). I'm I the only one who thought Stifler was just a bit too much Stifler? like he took drugs or something right after part II and came into III totally crazy. I think whats his name forgot how to get back into his character or something and made him.. more stifler..
I liked the scene when hes battling the gay guy.. Was he going to cry when they were telling him off right before the batlle? looked like it.

yeah but but the first two movies bothe each made over a 100 million at the box office, and the third one has made 80 million, so they don't have trouble making money being rated r. plus they will make a lot more on dvd and video sales. plus for a comedy, that is considered a lot of money, especially the third in a series.

When I saw the first two I said "Why don't they just make the whole movie Stifler? He's obviously the funniest part." Well I got my wish and boy was I wrong. He was comic relief, nothing more. But after the first two his star power went up and he signed that 3 picture deal, with the clause for Universal being AP3. So they had to boost his screen time, develop the charater more, and it ruined the franchise. No one wants to see Stifler become a better person, but rather him get his face pissed on or drink come. Sequels suck all the time, but when its a part 3 its even more disappointing (BTTF 3, Godfather 3, etc.).

not all part three's are bad i liked ap3. also a lot of people are saying that return of the king is going to be the best of all of the lotr movies.

I didn't mean all part 3's were bad, just that when you love the first two parts of a series and they make a third that sucks its even more disappointing than if you're let down by a part 2. And BTTF3 doesn't suck, its just nowhere near the first two. Not much time travel and for me that made the series. But that's a topic for another thread.

I thought the movie was really funny, as much as the first two and I loved them all. Stiffler was a riot, and the dance scene was so much fun to watch. Would have like to see more of Jim's dad, Eugene Levy, he's one funny guy.

There was nothing wrong with this movie. What were you all expecting "An Oscar Worthy Teen Comedy". The American Pie series is one of my favorite trilogies of all time, because they are just fun to watch. I enjoyed American Wedding because it was just a teen comedy and that is all it was meant to be. I did not mind not having the other characters from the first two movies because especially in the 2nd movie they were just used as filler. The storylines they were involved in were wrapped up and finished by the end of the 2nd movie. I was happy that I did not have to see Kevin get all upset when Vicky showed up with another boyfriend. Oz and Heather had an important role in American Pie 1, but Heather was barely in part 2. Nadia and Jessica were not necessary for the 3rd film because what would they do. Nadia was Jim's dream girl in the first movie and most of the second movie. After he chose Michelle there was no point to have Nadia around anymore unless you really wanted to see if she and Sherman became a couple. Jessica was pretty much useless in both of the movies. She only had a few good lines and only gave a little advice to the other characters, but there was never any major role for her to take. Even seeing the 2 "MILF" guys was pretty funny. So there you have it. There was nothing wrong with American Wedding and if they had all of the original characters the movie would have been more drawn out and not as fun to watch.

I thought the question should be, whats' wrong with the original?

The answer to that would be, nothing.
