Thread to talk about the Man Without Fear, and some of his finest comic book moments!
I've collected a sinful number of trade paperbacks....
Essential DD
The Man Without Fear
Visionares 1-3
Born Again
Parts of a Hole
Underboss
Out
Lowlife
I think Frank Miller sums it up in his intro to TMWF: "It's a wonder he isn't a bad guy. He had a rough upbringing...and then there's that terrible temper of his!"
That same issue has one of my favorite moments...Matt is being mugged in Hell's Kitchen ("Blind man! I'm talking to you!), and he has a flashback to being bullied in the playground as a child.
And he snaps. He breaks his cane in two and beats the living hell out of the thugs, as he hears the name in his mind - daredevil, daredevil, DAREDEVIL - and in the end, he stands over them, and says only, "You shouldn't have called me that."
He's a real guy, with real weaknesses...mental and physical. Afer the death of a loved one, he almost kills himself. After failing a child, he goes off and plays Russian roulette with a helpless arch enemy...
But even with that, it still has it's light moments...ask anyone who's read the "you got your popcorn in my blood" moment from Parts of a Hole!
Anyone else a fan of ol Hornhead?
