I'm just trying to get some feedback on the special edition dvd of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I've been thinking about buying it and was just wondering what you think of this dvd as far as picture quality and extras. And if you think it's a good purchase.

Any input would be helpful and appreciated.

Actually I reveiwed the DVD when it originally came out, but that was ages ago. The DVD features a new edition of the movie, which - while not being that much different to the original version - is actually slightly superior, and features a lot of truly great touched-up effects. The cool thing about it, is that the SFX team that re-did the special-effects made sure that none of the things they did made it look as if it wasn't part of the rest of the movie, and that it retained a certain "70's look". It's not as good as TWOK:DE or TVH:CE in terms of extras, but they're still great. The commentary track is truly excellent, and the deleted scenes are excellent (which is very rare occurence on DVDs. Most deleted scenes tend to be utter crap). Good picture, but a bit fuzzy in places, but the soundtrack is simply amazing (IMO, easily the best soundtrack of the pre-TNG films available on DVD)

Okay, thank you Sir. That helps. I would like to hear a commentary by Mr. Wise. I think I'll get it first chance I get.
