i think you forgot T3 as a disappointment. $240 million spent on making and marketing the film. only $144 million so far with a likely finish of $150 million.

Johnny English also did very well overseas, so I don't think the fact that it didn't do as well in the US constitutes a failure. Same with some of those others.

I'm just happy Gigli and From Justin 2 Kelly sunk...fast. As a matter of fact, Gigli didn't even get a chance to set sail. Yowza.

As for What A Girl Wants, I don't think they expected tons of money. How many 12 - 16 year old girls are there?

HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES[/B] Didn't these 3 bomb or make very little?

What about X2, Hulk and Matrix Reloaded?
X2 was an all over hit.
I think Hulk and Matrix were both successfull disappointments for most, and many (for some reason) considered Hulk a bomb.

House of 1000 Corpses was only filmed for a minimal amount. I think they ended up with about 12 or 13 million, which is a considerable amount more than what it was made for. There is also a sequel coming up....

The Hulk has made $217 million worldwide. It had a $120 million budget. If you add merchandising and DVD/video sales and rentals, it'll be a pretty good success for Universal. Everyone who says it's a bomb was expecting Spiderman-like numbers, which is impossible for a movie that doesn't have that broad of an appeal.

Gigli is now the #1 worst film of all time according to IMDB users. With a budget of $54 million and making only $4 million the first weekend (and probably going steadily down hill) this could be the biggest flop critically and finacially of the year.

Matrix Reloaded has made $707.2million worldwide and so far POTC has made $213.4million worldwide so only another $500 million to go which I find very unlikely

Don't slam anything that you've never seen, CA2 was alright and I suppose you think ROTK is gonna be amazing aswell although you haven't got a clue what that's like

i would think x-men 2 would also be one of the biggest success because i believe it made more then the first one, and was also considered better then the first one. i don't think terminator 3 is considered a flop by most because it made over a hundred million, and will make up the rest in dvd sales. i think the main summer movies consider flops are tomb 2, and charlie's angles 2, because they were both excepted to do a lot better. the biggest flop of a movie this year was gigli. the dumb & dumberer, wasn't hardly advertised. plus a lot of people boycotted that movie because freddy vs jason was supposed to come out on june 13, but new line decided to put that on date instead. i think the rest after that just did bad because there are always lots of movies released in the summer time, ever studio thinks they have to release there big money makers then, or there less serious films. during the fall is when all the serious films are usually out because of the oscars

T3 is a success. over $282million worldwide so far.
Hulk too is a success with over $220million worldwide so far.
CA2 has too made over $200 million worldwide.
DareDevil is a success - it just made over $50million in
DVD/VHS rentals and sales in the US in it's first week.

it doesn't matter whether POTC surpasses reloaded or not. what makes POTC a success is how well it's still doing domestically coz of good word of mouth. what made reloaded a disappointment is the huge numbers it got worldwide in its first few weeks of release, and its sudden drop from the charts in such a short time, coz most people who saw it didn't like it. Has anyone noticed that the film barely made thrice as much money as its opening weekend, worldwide or domestically?

I'm glad Gigli is doing horrendous....it means that there's still hope for American cinema, that people will go to theatres for more then just star power.....Now once movies like Charlies Angels stop being made, THEN you'll see a big smile on my face!

I'm just counting for how much they made in the u.s. and not internationally, and for X2, it wasn't a surprise because we knew it would do well.
Although,
Malibu's Most Wanted made $35mil, that's way more than people expected.
Wrong Turn, i have a post for why it is a success.
House Of 1000 Corpses: opened to $3mil, made $12.5mil, opened in like 300-something theaters.

I hated it when I heard that Ben and JLO were making a movie together. It's so phony. All they're doing is milking their popularity for everything its got. And this is the retribution.

While I consider The Matrix Reloaded the best film of the year so far, it dropped off the map pretty fast...lasting only #1 at the b.o. For only one week! Geez, that was surprising...then again films during the summer push off eachother week after week...so the "America's#1" movie claim is a bit of a joke.

the most laughable box office films receipt wise has been of course Gigli, along with The Core, that Dustin Hoffman Con movie(did it even come to theatres) and and some other films that didnt quite get out of the gate.

Gosh, sorry mate. :( Didn't mean any offense! You have the right to your own opinion....still, I haven't heard a lot of good comments about CA2....and, from the previews, it didn't look like something I'd enjoy. That's the only reason I said it. (I do think ROTK will be good, because I really enjoyed reading the books! lol ;))
