I may be just over my head but I love politics. I love debating about stuff other than the fictional world. I think we need a politics forum. Someone say yes, besides me.

For once I agree...Debating world events would make for some interesting conversation...I can show people how much of an idiot Bush is

I like the idea of discussing politics but this is a movies forum, so I voted no. You can start a couple of threads in the comunity forum and see how they do or how about you post a link to any politics forums you use.

No

That is what the Community board is for.....

The Community Board has too much socializing. Everyone would ignore a politics thread completely. A forum would be much more adequate.

Not neccesarily, but can you imagine what would go down in a Politics board(i'm talking nonstop fighting)?. It'd be a moderators nightmare.

Well, there's two things you should not discuss: Politics and Religion

Balrog of Moria
08-02-2003, 04:20 PM
What makes those 2 things so off limit...

A heated debate is NOT fighting

spiderman_2k
08-02-2003, 04:24 PM
Yes but u usually get someone who throws in a very un-needed comment about certain religions or certain feelings about polictics and such...people take these things really really really seriously...Like some of them structure there whole life around it...

Balrog of Moria

Also true, perhaps the mods could put I sign on the door that says

"your IQ must be this high to enter"

hpk37067
08-02-2003, 06:14 PM
That would be good. But I don't think anyone would actually go to the forum if they didn't want to be in a heated argument. And a heated argument if different from fighting. That's like saying presidential debates are brawls. What I'm saying is a discussion about world events. You know, stuff like that. Besides, Yahoo and so many other websites have political forums and they don't do anything stupid.

This is an movie/entertainment forum...i say we keep it at that..

Yes...but the actions of our cartoon like leaders is entertaining

I've adamantly defended poster's rights to talk about real world issues for a while.....

But I don't think we need a whole forum devoted to it...just post the topics in community. I assure you that they might go slowly, but WON'T be ignored! :)

You've been here what, 3 months? There have been many political debates in the past that have gotten very serious and much attention. If anyone wants to bring up a political topic, make a thread and it should be fine.

Seriously, go digging through Community, and you can find all sorts of debates. We've talked about 9/11, Iraq, the beltway snipers, gun control, religion, :o et cetera. Or just start some of your own...

It would be a 24/7/365 arguement in there. It would drift off onto other subjects like religion and who knows what else and it would create so much tension on these boards that we just don't need. I say nay.

A politics is a fun topic, but people get too mad over other people's opinions on the topic.

i am actually 1 of the 8/24 that voted yes

i vote yes because i hate politics and if we have our own little thread for it i would never have to look at them:D

I'd have to say no to an entire forum, Politics and Religion many people are too passionate about, and it leads to way too many arguments.

That said a few poltics threads are fine.

Could be the most entertaining thread around if anyone wants to start an official poilitics forum. I know so many people who hate politics, but still have an opinion about what's going on, that this thread could go on forever. It should be it's own group, as it could have so many spin-off threads. Lets talk about everything execpt the CA recall. That's just too messed up...

I mean, if religion really becomes an issue that people make hurtful comments about, they can be thrown out. That's not really a problem. I think enough people here can be trusted enough to not bring religion into the issue, unless it has to just stick to principles and not why one is better than the other. And it's not like everyone will be forced to go to the forum. They can go if they want to voice their opinion.

How the hell is that not a reason, maybe you would understand if you actually lived in a country where the government don't run things and the police force sides with one half of the religious community.

I could be murdered because of the shirt I'm wearing due to the political divide, and the main politicians have connections with the main terrorist organisations in the country.

If you want to start a political thread in Community, hpk, no one's stopping you. People can talk politics all they want as long as it's civil, but still - the Powers That Be don't see the need for a whole Political Forum, and I agree. Plenty of room in Community.
