What's up everybody I'm new to the site!
I was wondering how you guys felt about purchasing digital downloads. I'm interning at Universal Music and we're trying to figure out what would it take for people to purchase legitimate downloads instead of getting free music by file sharing. Like right now we're promoting our jazz artists that'll be performing over the summer. We have a site where you can purchase downloads from a number of artists including Roy Hargrove, Diana Krall, Richard Elliott, Mindi Abair, David Sanborn, John Scofield, Lizz Wright, and more. The site is also offering a contest to win a number of prizes like a signed Jesse Harris album proof sheet, a portable digital music player, and a grand prize of a trip for two to the 2004 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Would this be enough for you to purchase a download?
Your feedback is very much needed and appreciated. I’ll post the link if you guys are interested. I didn’t want to post it on the first post because I did that on other sites and caught hell lol.

Purchasing digital downloads...only if it is a good deal cheaper than the storebought stuff. I prefer to actually have something in my hands, I also find that most people buy stuff they like, its just that labels put out so much crap.

Its a good idea to start with Jazz artists-because the listeners of contemparary jazz may be tech savy and inclined to pay for the music they listen to. But really, I doubt that Jazz afficianados are the best ones to test this out on-like I said, they probably buy most of the music that they really like. I've just begun listening to Jazz, I'm still on the Hot Fives and sevens, so I'm not really interested in the artists that you listed right there, as of right now. Jazz Fest 2004? Do you think Dylan will be there?

Spam spam spam spam. Spam spam spam spam.

First of all I buy the cds of the bands or music that I like. Just like Quinn said. Secondly, You aren't losing money because of file sharing programs. At least very little. People just have more to spend their money on now. Dvds in particular. I think people download music out of boredom mostly. They have no intention of ever buying the cd. So if that's how you figure you're losing money, then you need to work for the government. And lastly, there just isn't anything new worth buying from the major labels. Unless you like Britney, Christina and their numerous clones. I buy 99 percent of my new stuff from the Magna Carta label.

And we don't like: spam spam spam spam, spam spam spam spam. That's what's up. Although I doubt that we'll hear from you again. Unless it's to advertise for your company again with more spam spam spam spam, spam spam spam spam!!!

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I've been busy spamming other message boards lol. But I agree with both you. I buy albums by artists I really like and would rather have a cd than a download. Universal is just trying to combat file sharing, not replace purchasing real albums. I think it's a good idea for people that would rather download than go to the store. And these aren't some poor quality mp3's, this is liquid audio which has better sound quality than mp3's and is virus free. Plus with this service you can preview entire albums and enter a contest without buying a thing.

I'm going to post the link anyways just so you can look at it. Please give me some more feedback. I appreciate it. Here it is http://tower.umgdownloads.com/. Thanks guys!
