So I'm watching the 200 Greatest Pop Culture Icons on VH1 last night right. And they gave Jack Nicholson #81! I couldn't believe it. What kinda crap is that! He's America's most prized possession and one of the greatest actors (if not THE greatest) that has ever lived!!! And Fing P. Diddy ranked higher than him. WTF!!!

I know, and I thought MTV was the only music channel able to f**k

With your venting, that confirms for me that your avatar is indeed good 'ol Jack...due to the size, I could never really tell if it was Jack or Billy Bob Thornton.
Anyways, #81 is indeed a crime. Was the list based on current day status, or an all-time list? Sadly to say, but if it is indeed based on the most influential pop icons TODAY, then P. Diddy is actually more influential than the legendary Jack. No way in hell does P. Diddy have a higher ranking from a historical viewpoint though.

It's for all time. Audrey Hepburn and Lucille Ball are on it and pretty high up on it too.
Put it this way. Think about how many people know who P Diddy is and how many people know who Jack Nicholson is. EVERYONE knows who Jack is, young or old. But I promise you that there is a HUGE chunk of older people who have no idea who P Diddy is or even want to.

Yeah the list is terrible. You look at one icon and say I agree with his ranking and then you look at who comes after him and you get a headache trying to think how is that possible?! Then you continue to skim the list and see all these icons that just don't make sense.
If they just showed 200 and didn't have an offical ranking, just aired them alphabetically all would be much better. You would just argue who made the list not who made the list and then what order they came in. The Osbournes are quite high, plus a dozen more. Suprised The Bachelorette didn't make it.
Leno is ahead of Letterman by about 20 positions even with Letterman on the air and actually doing something new ten years prior to Leno getting The Tonight Show.
Jack is Jack, he's too good for this list. ;)

That's really weird then. Maybe the grannys are bumpin' Mo'Money Mo'Problems in their caddies as they drive to the supermarket and we just don't know about it.
Jack is indeed THE MAN. VH1 just "can't handle the truth."

That whole list was ****ty, Oprah as 1? Uh...sure people.
I think VH1 just wrote down 200 celebrities that they could think of, put them in a hat, and drew them out, and that was the order.
VH1 and Oprah can lick my feet :D

Oprah?!?!?!? For one I know a million guys that have never seen an episode of Oprah ever. Now I know how it was done. A buncha chicks picked the list and then threw in some of the guys faves because they didn't want a riot to follow....

I didn't understand the guidelines for the list...
It was like Princess Diana followed by Superman followed by Madonna......
And I was like "WTF????"

VH1's llists. dont even get me started. i have seen all their lists and ALL of them are wrong in one way or another. but that Pop Culture Icons list was a crime to society. Oprah higher then Babe Ruth, Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Elvis. NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!! i was sure Michael Jackson or Elvis would be number 1. they are in real life; VH1 lives in a dream world.
and yes Idaho, VH1's lists are made up primarily of women. which is why Oprah is number 1. i checked into it.

and what about Britney Spears being the number 1 teen idol of ALL TIME ahead of Jackson 5, Davy Jones, and the monkees. i am by no means a teen idol fan but even i know that list is *****ed up.
The only VH1 position i have agreed on was Led Zeppelin being the #1 Hard Rock band of all time.

I was really mad about Britney spears being like #20 and the Beatles were in the 60's. What sense does that make??

Wow! I think that pretty much sums the validity of their icon rankings. What garbage. Was Pauley Shore #2?

Do the public not have to vote for things like that, because that would explain the rankings

I can't remember. Did anyone see Aerosmith on the list? If they weren't there that's another big no-no.
