Can I also just throw out my opinion here. Linkin Park is the worst band out there right now. They are dumb rapcore or whatever it used to be called I just cant understand why people like them espashly when there just like a rock version of a boyband. Another band put together by a record company to make money they suck. Ok thats all I have to say about that :)

Also good call jbailey84 Limp Bizkit 3 dolla bill y$ll was an amazing album but anyting after that sucks... heh

Why is everyone listing Metallica? It's not a pop music thread. Unless you mean the old (pre-black album) Metallica before that pop band stole their name and killed Napster...

so therefore linkin park, chevelle, deftones, disturbed, etc. etc., cannot be classified because they are popular too. unless you meant pop as in "poppy", then you my friend are completely insane. drop the metallica grudge and move on, if you dont like em fine i dont care just stop *****ing about it.

I didn't say that because Metallica was popular. I said it because ever since the Black album they suck. The Black album was probably pretty good, but I got so very sick of it.
They used to know how to really rock and that's what made them good. Not this recycled watered down commercial rock that we've heard countless times before.
Unoriginality is what really lost many older fans.
"Reload" - They couldn't think of a decent title? Or is it because it sounds the same as "Load?"
"Unforgiven Too" - "Dude, 'Unforgiven' was big hit, let's do it again!"
"Garage Inc." - "I don't feel like writing new music, let's just do some bad covers."
"S&M" - "I don't feel like writing new music, let's just do our songs with...an orchesta!"
"St. Anger" is horrid. The only reason it's any radio play is because of the band. If any new band had released this song, you would not be hearing it. And the lyrics? Laughable. Did James go into his junior high school and find some old lyrics?
I will not stop this grudge until Metallica stops making music.
Thanks.

I agree with your first two points. I happen to think RELoad is the worst album, but i do like the song Unforgiven 2, even though they definitely couldve thought of a better name. I loved Garage, Inc., loved S&M (btw, No Leaf Clover and -Human, whether you liked them or not, were new songs). And I love St. Anger. Some of the lyrics are laughable, yes, but James didnt write all the lyrics, the whole band had writing credits for every song. So im pretty sure Kirk or Lars or Bob probably had something to do with some of the pretty ****ty lyrics. but it'll be a while before Metallica stops writing music, so have fun holding that grudge.

Black Sabbath
Zeppelin
AC/DC
Alice in Chains
Dio

There's many others that have a tune or two that I like. My actual favorite "metal" band is a band called Shadow Gallery on the Magna Carta label. But Shadow Gallery is better described as progressive metal. A lot of amazing guitar stuff, but also not always in your face or dealing with dark themes like Pantera and bands like that. They're actually a progressive rock band that have a metal sound.

I don't listen to as much metal as I did when I was younger. A little metal goes a long way with me now. I actually like peace and quiet now. But I can still be found doing the Angus head bob from time to time.

Actually, the first real Heavy Metal band is Black Sabbath: I don't think Led Zeppelin quite fit the Heavy Metal label

Don't get me wrong, they rule (I mean, Stairway to Heaven is the most popular song in the world)

My favs are Iron Maiden, KISS, Guns N Roses, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Queen (ALthough these aren't all HM, they still ruled the music scene with iron fists and continue in popularity today

But I say, even thought HM is my primary genre, I love all sorts of music: Bach, Kaneko Mika, Martina McBride, whatever flicks the switch in the back of your head man

But I HATE rap, Eminem must be put to the wall with all his ilk before it is too late
