Maybe this has being covered before , but director Jan de Bont says his "cradle of life" sequel will have no explosions in it, not one. He also states there are no cgi imagery in this flick. NONE. Every stunt and action sequences is done by human hand. I was wondering how will this play out with the audiences who expect explosions and cgi to carry the film and the day. I have seen the trailer and it looks like and exciting flick.

i think this is a sequel that should not have been made. the first got terrible reviews and was truly a bad movie. no explosions or cgi either? this film is doomed to bomb at the box office....

First one was bad IMO, and I'm not a fan of the game or anything anyways, so I'm not planning on spending money to sit through this pile.

uhhhh i think in the first one didnt she fight like freakin stone monsters and a robot and ****, maybe since they DID have cgi in that one and it sucked major bootwah, then they're trying not having anything in this one and seeing if it'll have the reverse effect.

thats bull**** that theres no cgi, in the commercial theres a big monster lookin dude, who is clearly cgi. unless im sadly mistaken on what the hell cgi is.

My guess is that scene was blue/green screen. But yeah, I would think they would of used some CGI for it.

Yes, you're right. So im not sure what this post is about, or if that guy really said it. However what he probably ment was all the stunts are done by humans, as stated above. Saying that there is no human CGI, like there was in the Matrix, DareDevil, Spider-Man, or Blade 2.

the first one had some cool actions but a crap story...

Well in his defense, he's only basing it on a mathematical equation with one unkown, the goodness of Cradle of Life.

Tomb Raider X 10 = bad

He never says the movie IS 10 times better, only if it was, it's still bad

Totally agree...I mean I know the first one wasn't that great..but I will admit I enjoyed it...basically I want to go see this...I like the game...I need something that is fun and myth and supposed to be over the top this weekend anyway...its been a long week. I am excited...dare I say...but I can't wait.

It's odd, but I was really WANTING this movie to be good. The premise has good potential, so why can't they do anything really worthwhile with it? I didn't see this sequel yet, but from what I'm hearing, it's just marginally better than the first, and still a disappointment.

There were so many ways the original TR could have been better:

Step 1- Scrap the techno soundtrack junk and get a proper score. Look what The Raiders March did for Indy! Now picture Indy's jeep chase in Raiders with a techno song or Bono or Missy Elliot, and think how much less effective it would have been. Granted, the problems with the first TR movie went well beyond a lousy soundtrack, but it's a starting point at least.

Step 2-- Make her at least somewhat real! Her coy smile in the face of danger just gave the impression that nothing impressed her much, so why the hell should it impress the audience. Stone guardians? No biggie. Giant robot? Who cares. Now compare her reactions to how Indy reacted when that boulder chased him. He was SCARED, so WE were scared for him.

Step 3-- Write a coherent story. Not much more to say on that note. Just try to avoid gaping plot holes at every step of the way.

Step 4-- Note that a fast jeep, sled or motorcycle is NOT inherently exciting. Showing Lara drive her motorcycle quickly across Tower Bridge does NOT constitute an action scene. Nor does showing her drive a jeep through a jungle or a sled across an arctic tundra. Talk about wasted opportunities....

Anyway, like I said, I didn't see the sequel yet, but hopefully they took some of these points into consideration. Surely I'm not the only one who felt this way.

(confession-- as bad as the first movie was, I admit to having enjoyed it in a purely mindless way.)

I think a lot of people had such high expectations for TR1, that they were dissapointed by it. I actually thought it was a decent move (maybe not one i would see twice in the theater, but a fun summer movie) I am expeciting this one to surprise a lot of people... From nearly all accounts, this movie is better than the first one. The trailer really does make the movie look cool you have to admit that... and Jolie looks amazing in that silver outfit... I think this is going to be just what i am looking for, a fun summer movie..

6/10 - not bad.

I don't see how this can be worse than the first....and I was dissapointed but liked the first at the same time. Overall, I think De Bont is a MUCH better (ie, more subtle) director than SW, so I'm excited to see it today.

Plus, no one ever gets why people like genre films.

Saw it today, and it's not bad.
Definitely better than the first, although no bathing scenes this time.

It's worth the price just for all the exotic locales, and Angelina in her silver suit.

I just have one question...when the **** is that damn ad gonna be from the top of every screen on these forums?

I like to listen to a cd when I'm online, not my cd and that ****ing trailer!

Every time I see/hear it, it makes me want to see it less and less.
Not that I wanted to see it anyway...

Anyway, I saw this movie and it was okay. Just your basic adventure movie. The finale surprised me though. I didn't expect to see CGI monsters but it worked out well.

ANd duBont was correct, there aren't any large explosion or human cgi in this, (the shadow wwarriors obviously were but they looked great). I find that interesting, but i5t still work for the movie. Stepping away for the Matrixeuque stunts and moving back to more realistic lmoves. Still works in my opinion.

I saw it Saturday. It sucked. The first 15 minutes are good, the part with the tree monsters is good, and thats pretty much it. The villain sucked. The chinese bad guy should've had it out with Lara at the end, not that Rice guy. and Bryce and the butlers roles were smaller than in the last film. What a mess.

I was dragged into this film. It sucked royal arse!!!!!!!!!! You've seen it before but not this bad. Terrible. Yes, Jolie is a major hottie with dsl's t&a but hey wtf? The ending was like LOTR and the middle a bad JOhn Woo ripoff. God, please don't see this movie. THere is absolutely no logic to it! Example, at the end they travel through this shadow world to Pandora's box but later this guy just flies over the shadow world and drops down from a helicopter!!!!?????????

I saw it, i liked it. I mean, it wasn't like a masterpiece of greatness, but it was enjoyable. Some of it seemed far fetched such as the guy going down in the helicoper & the army people walking thru the tree monsters and some other stuff, but It was better than the first. I give it a B- for a grade. I think people are just compairing it to so many other action movies that they forget to enjoy themselves.

I saw and it didn't suck. Most of the reviews I have seen have a postitve light on it. This isn't the first. They were careful to move away from that. I just dont think you can judge something you don't know. :rolleyes:

its not an opinion its fact. what else would be the reason that the film has bombed?? they did enough advertising and people knew when it was coming out, yet its making far far less then expected. its not even going to make its $100 mil budget back in the US. why you ask? because (in general) we dont care about lara croft. the lara croft character has been poorly developed on the big screen and the public lacks interest in her.

Personally I thought the problem with this film was that the trailer made it appear boring. Part 1had a great trailer which peaked interest. I assumed going in that they just saved the good parts from the trailer so that people could be surprised when they see the film in theatres, boy was I wrong. This film lacked all the fun and entertainment of the first one, hence why it flopped.
