Best Character: Ender Wiggin / Roland Deschain. It's a dead tie.

What do you mean by worst? You mean like worst as in you love to hate said character? Or worst as in the writer had his head up his ass and the character sucked?

One character I loved to hate was Tick-Tock Man, from the end of SK's "The Waste Lands". I thought he was gonna shape up to be something really cool, be sort of a mini-bad-ass, the underboss for the Ageless Stranger. But then in "Wizard And Glass" he's just kind of thrown away like an afterthought. Why did King even bother to bring him back from being shot in the first place if he was just gonna do that with him? I think Tick-Tock fits both categories, really. He was a cool bad guy, and the writer had his head up his ass, at least in the way he killed him off. The rest of "Wizard And Glass" was great, though. Can't wait for "Wolves Of The Calla". I'm rambling. Someone stop me.

I hated Pip from Great Expectations. Such a whiny brat. Didn't deserve a thing in his life......

I can't believe people like that trash.

You want Dicken's? Read Tale of Two Cities.

FAVORITE: Holden Caulfield from "The Catcher in the Rye"

I'll have to think about least favorite......

Worst: Grisham's million completely interchangeable lawyer/FBI type people who are names with no personalities. He only gives one to three characters per novel personalities.

Ditto. Also, Atticus Finch & Scout from To Kill A Mockingbird.

I would have been shocked if you choose anyone else Brock.

There are alot of characters I've liked from books it's hard to choose one favorite. Some of my favorites have been Roland Deschain (The Dark Tower series), Flagg (many of Stephen King's books). Francisco D'Ancodia(sp?), John Galt (both from Atlas Shrugged).

I can't think of a worst character.

Worst- Heathcliffe and Catherine from Wuthering Heights, Phineas from A Seperate Peace,

Best- Astrid from White Oleander, Jane Eyre from Jane Eyre, Billy Pilgrim from Slaughter-house Five, Kilgore Trout from Breakfast of Champions, Winston from 1984, Delores from She's Come Undone.

Favorite of all time (to date) - It's a tie between Delores from She's Come Undone (my favorite book) and Astrid from White Oleander.

So glad this was mentioned. We had to read that book for school. I hated it. The narrator from that book was a bad character too too.

What's your reasoning for putting him there? I like hearing Seperate Peace bashing.

Well, his whole attitude actually. The way he treats Gene, the way he behaves throughout the novel. He's the typical jock and I felt bad for the way that the division pushed Gene to jiggle the limb while Finny was on it. Personally, I think he got what he deserved. He was jealous of Gene's intelligence and he always tried to get Gene to be like him. He gets Gene in a lot of trouble and in the end when Finny bites it, everyone is heartbroken. It just sucks how Gene got screwed, goaded into being something he wasn't and pushed to limit and that ultimately altered lives..yet Finny is put on a pedestal at the end. He even goes as far as to decide that Gene will take over his place. It's like he has to command or he isn't complete. Characters like that drive me up the wall!

Agreed, agreed. That whole book was very poorly written. Gene was a dumb character too since he basically moped around and didn't do anything interesting. I had to do a website project on it a couple months ago.

NO NO NO NO... the best character from a book is of course, Dean Moriarity from "The Beat Generation" or as its known today, "On the road"

Most well written characters:

Roland Deschain from the Dark Tower series. A character with flaws and strengths that come through whenever he confronts an enemy or challenge. This also goes for his cohorts.

Vampire Lestat from the Interview with a Vampire chronicles. So richly defined that his character deserves to exist in real life thanks to the amount of detail put into his creation.

Worst written:

Nicole Wakefield from the Arthur C. Clark Rama series. Her bland character continually stunted my enjoyment of the series and what's worse she was the main character.

Joshua Calvert from The Nights Dawn trilogy, a character with immense potential yet was left to be a near secondary character. I blame the writer (Peter F. Hamilton) for this because he introduced WAY too many characters into the series.

Worst? I'd have to say........Dirk Pitt from Clive Cussler's books. He's unbeatable. He can never die. He's perfect and a ladies man. He sucks.

Best? Achilles, from SHADOW OF THE HEGEMON. Very well created character.

I agree but Bean's dialogue is much better. You need to read Shadow Puppets.

You must hate James Bond too. ;)

Best Characters: Van Helsing from Dracula, Yossarian from Catch-22, Gollum from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit

Worst: I hated Finny from A Separate Peace. Really, I hated everyone in that novel. The only thing that's worse than the novel is the movie. At least it's shorter and laughable.

I really don't like James Bond but I can stand him because people actually die. With Dirk Pitt, everyone survives on an exploding fill in the blank.
