Hello everyone.
I'm thinking of buying a Playstation2 or xbox, because my Pc is too weak to play the good games that are out there.
I'm wanting to play stuff like Enter the Matrix..but not sure which to buy.
Your views and pointers will be greatfully taken.

Thank you.

I think your best bet would be to go with the X-Box...Its really the best system on the market at the time

I second that. Speed, graphics, hard drive, deeper games, IE > Fable, KOTOR, B.C.

The XBOX's custom soundtrack is unbeatable too. Then again, the PS2 has a massive selection of games. It also has the most popular franchise around as a PS2 - exclusive. I'm talking about Grand Theft Auto.

Still even if the PSX has a harddrive, you can't play custom soundtracks. The games weren't designed for it. So it would be just for storage. Acutally the custom Soundtrack feature was a big selling point for me and my XBOX. I love racing or beating the crap out of Godzilla with Metallica or Rage blasting in the background.

But you know what, in 3 years both systems will be like personal PC's with large drives, burning, web browsing, etc.

Plus everygame that gets ported over from PS2 to XBOX always gets a visual tune up and a shot of extra content.

Fanible

He didn't say PS3. That's quite a bit a ways off. He said PSX, it's a different thing. It has a computer hard drive of 120gb memory, dvd-rw drive, a PS2 built in, and Broadband ready. If PS3 was just a PS2, that would be the dumbest thing in the world.

But yes PSX is an amazing looking thing. However it'll probably be much more expensive.

As far as the systems go, it depends on how you look at it. X-Box is the overall better system with specs. However those specs are only good if whoever creates the game takes the time and actually uses them to make their game look great on Xbox, which unfortunatly a lot of companies don't.

Then you also have the much larger selection for PS2 as far as games go. And due to the large amount of sales from the PS2, more and more game companies sign on to PS2 to release their games on their system, cause they know more people own the console. So you've already got a very large selection of games, but you're more than likley going to continue getting more and more games and at a faster rate than Xbox usually.

Xbox on the other hand has a better online service, with it's online games being better as well. PS2 is trying to change that with some exclusive games coming out, but currently Xbox is the better online system.

It just depends on which thing you like better, or if you're willing to take the chance with one or the other.

Its not an expansion but a new Entertainment System.....It was revealed at E3, with a model and stuff....It will also be a better way of expanding the PSP (Sonys handheld Device)....

Fanible
07-17-2003, 03:43 PM
Well it is just an expansion really. There isn't going to be PSX games, it's just going to play PS2 games. It's just a PS2 with advanced specs (supposedly par with Xbox specs, or more so), and lots of other neat gear along with it in one small package. It's just an up-tuned fancy PS2.

My question is are current PS2 owners going to rush out and buy this? How much is it? Do they get a rebate if they return thier PS2? And aren't you pissed that its still just a PS2.

spiderman_2k
07-17-2003, 03:51 PM
Im not that mad, my PS2 isnt running that great anymore, the new features included are great...Plus it is seriously sexy looking... :D

Fanible
07-17-2003, 03:52 PM
Well for non-PS2 owners, it will be an excellent buy. But for people that own an PS2, you don't really need it. Not at all. It's just like you wouldn't buy an old PlayStation, you'd buy the new spiffy looking one. Thats all they're really doing.

You can buy it if you want. PS2 owners arn't going to NEED to or WANT to buy it, but they can. It's just an upgraded better PS2.

I'll probably buy it. It's very slick, and it'll work better than my current PS2, and all the extra junk it comes with is very good. It's DVD rom player is better than my normal DVD player as it is. So instead of buying a new DVD player (as I was planning on to), i'll probably just buy the PSX, which already has broadband ready hooked up, the option of burning DVD's, and lots of memory.

PSX will be available in Japan at the end of the year. It will be released in America early 2004. My guess is that it'll cost 400 dollars.

PS3 is expected for a 2005 debut.

with TV recording and DVD burning capabilities and many others - for only 400 dollars? Id buy that, but I bet its a lot more.

This is the direction sony and microsoft both want to go - with the all in one integrated kit.

JAE
07-17-2003, 04:15 PM
Yeah, when the XBOX came out Microsoft said that one day they hoped for the XBOX to be the heart of entertainment for your entire home.

Fanible
07-17-2003, 04:23 PM
Well maybe 500 dollars a the most. Im not sure why they'll charge more. I know they try to keep the costs down low for console systems, even with the new tech, because it's suppose to appeal to people over a new computer system. But also it's not suppose to cost much more than their regular gaming consoles. As PS3 will no doubt be 300 dollars like PS2 first was, im guessing they won't charge too much more for the PSX.

Honestly I was hoping Xbox was going to take it's levels to where they originally wanted it. Basicly just a gaming computer system. Which would be great. I wouldn't mind a console system, that is no different than a computer with Windows and whatnot, except runs games at great peak levels.

The problem with computers is the constant need to upgrade due to games. If you had a computer ment for certain games, that would be great for me. I'd like the style of playing on a computer, and knowing each game that comes out will work on your computer to a great level, without having to figure that out somehow. I think it's ridiculous that these super console systems that ended up having graphics and whatnot better than even CPU's latest graphic cards, were only 300 dollars when brand new, and have moved down to 200-250 dollars. While computers that will keep you up to date for atleast a year cost over 1500 dollars.

CPU prices have gotten better, but I want a great gaming computer that will last you and each game comes out for it you know will work. Thats whats so appealing about the super consoles, but I'd still like the functions of a computer as well.

I want an Xbox, mixed with all the new features of the PSX, and have it operate like a normal computer and come with a keyboard and mouse. Cost it at like 600 dollars, and you have a perfect system.

So..what console do you guy own?

Fanible
07-17-2003, 04:41 PM
I own all of them. Personally if you have to own just one, I think PS2 is the best choice due to it's game selections and exclusives. I only bought Xbox for a racing game I enjoyed, and Halo. Dead or Alive is fun as well.

The custom soundtrack is a neat feature but there's very few XBOX games that support it. The only one's I know of that use it are Test Drive and Project Gotham Racing. Do you know anymore?

I'd do the same if my Blockbuster actually had quality games to buy. So i get my used games from Babbage's most of the time. I only go EB for those "hard- to- find" games.
