Harry seemed to have a distinctly different attitude in OOTP than he does in the other four books, I'm just curious, how did you feel about this?

At first I hated it...then I thought...when I was 15, I was pretty pissed at the world...so I grew to like the way Harry was acting like a normal teenager

As a teenager who is 15 I can say that I am pissed off at the world. But I dont think that Harry is acting as the "normal" teenager. I know what JKR was trying to do however the new attitude seams forced since it basicly just comes outa no wear in the book. Last book he was polite and curtious. And in the 5th he how completly uncomtrolable emotions.

i think that he is just pissed off that nobody is really telling him the things he wants to know...he has always been able to ask questions and get the answers but now he cant seem to get a straight answer from anyone....if you ask me i would be pretty angry too

Now my favs go; Goblet of Fire, Prisoner of Azkaban, Order of the Pheonix, Chamber of Secrets and Philosophers Stone (But the last two/are tied, and three and four are interchangable;))

I know this has been talked about before, but how far do you all think Rowling will take his 'coming of age'? If she wants to take his ageing all the way, in terms of believability.. will there also be SEX in the books? :p (asked the PERF in me!:D )

I hope she does it the same way she wrote about the kiss with Cho! That was beautifully done! Really subtle.

if there is sex, it will not be detailed, only unsaid suggestions

It kinda made me step back and look at myself. I was annoyed at him and then when I started to think about it I was like "wow, i'm just as bad...somebody should slap me ":D

i highly doubt that there will be sex.. this book is intented for children, the rating is for 9-12 year olds

why is it that sex is what determines if it gets a higher rating or not? If J.K.'s books are meant for 9-12 yr. olds i guess its cuz they can't understand all the underlying themes going on in the books so it doesn't bother them. When I read the 4th book my jaw dropped a couple of times (and stayed dropped). Even some stuff in COS and POA was pretty deep and intense for "kids." For example: the dementor's kiss where a person's soul is sucked out through their mouth...whoa. The idea of the demenotrs in general is pretty scary stuff for young children- never feeling happiness again, those horrifying desriptions of them, and harry hearing his mum's last words over and over again in his head.
I think the reading level should be 9-12 but the actual content I think would be a little much for even my 13 yr. old sis...def. not appropriate for a 9 yr. old.

If there was sex, it probably would be subtle. She probably thought the kiss was a bit too mature and instead didn't go into detail.

I REALLY dont think they are going into detail with sex...i doubt they will even addres it with the main characters

She's always been subtle with the aspect of attraction: In book 1 for instance, Lee Jordan in the Quidditch Pitch shouts "And the Quaffle is taken by Angelina Johnson of Gryffindor! What an excellent Chaser that girl is, and rather attractive too!" And by book 5 the tone hasn’t changed much. It's still just as playful and subtle. It just doesn't fit the Potter Universe to go graphic on these subjects.

But on the other hand: the violence IS becoming more and more adult themed, so you never know what Rowling has in store for us.. Ron and Hermione in tight rubber outfits, chained to the wall in Filches office and.. and..

when i first read the book i understood why harry's attitude was so bad.

First of all, no one would give him a straight answer about voldermort (wouldnt u be pissed off if u couldnt find out any info about ur arch enemy!). Second, he had to live with the dursleys again. Thirdly, professor umbridge gave him so much s*** it would have driven anyone insane (especially the detentions), and lastly he had voldermort giving him one hell of a headache. Now isnt that reason enough to act like he did?

Oh and what about Cho Chang winging and crying like a git (thats reason enough for the bad attitude).

I bet Cho was just fueling his anger. Crying every other second with Harry.

I don't really like Harry's new attitude. He acts like brat, but I shouldn't be judging him because I don't know what it's like to have Voldemort and teachers like Professor Umbrige to deal with. As a teenager not that much older than 15, I can truly say that yes, I do get angry, but I don't take it out on my friends... that's what family is for. Nothing like a daily argument over nothing with the folks ;) . As for the whole puberty thing, and realizing that  *gasp* there's an opposite sex, I highly doubt JK will go into detail about the love lives of characters. She didn't even give us that many hints about the kiss that Harry and Cho shared. The most she gave us was, "It was wet... because she was crying..."

(pg 458) Ron was asking Harry if he kissed Cho and since he did, he asked how it was. Harry told him that it was wet because she had been crying. Not any other sort of wet.

It made it all like a Star Wars thing. So dark and evil. "Fear leads to hate, hate leads to anger, anger...leads to suffering." Though, not that I am saying Harry will be evil at the end of the book, but I am just saying. He make one dark character..

Damn this seems similiar to the thread I started about Harrys anger, how it is controlloing his emotions and taking control. I seem to think part of Voldemort is possibly infuencing his behavior. Just think of he used a Unforgivable curse on Bellatrix. Will there be any repurcussionms by doing that, will it lead him more towards the darkside?

thanks overagain,

I saw Vertical Limit the other night and that line was so god-damn funny.

Michael Campbell (goldeneye, mask of zorro) is one of the best action directors out there besides Jim Cameron. I know this is a HP board but i just had to say that.

About harry's attitude. I wonder what his attitude will be like in the next book.

What are you people talking about???? You are acting like everyone just normally matures in this contiual path...... Hello... that's not how it works. . . . .and when you through in that he is a wizard, he has newspapers continually mocking him, he is famous beyond his control, and on top of everything else, a lunatic nutcase has the prime objective in life to kill him. . . . .how can anyone not expect his attitude to change????? The entire series would be rubish if he didn't have a attitude change. . . . you people take this entirely too serious. Harry is not, I repeat not a real person. . . . I know that may come as a shock to some of you, but Harry is a character that only comes to life in books and movies. . ... . .. ..gits
