View Full Version : Movies With Awesome Endings

You know a movie with an awesome ending? Talk about it here. The best ending that sticks out in my mind is The Matrix. Neo makes a brief speech about letting us all know what the machines don't want us to know...the truth. Next thing you know, Neo a.k.a The One is flying. Definitely one of the coolest endings in a movie .

Alright one of my favorite endings would have to be Batman. I loved how you see most of Gotham City and then you see Batman standing on top of it, the music is great in that scene. I also like Seven's ending, didnt expect that to happen. Other movie endings would have to be Shawshank Redemption, Empire Strikes Back, Sixth Sense, FOTR and Braveheart. BTW shouldnt this be in the general movies forum.

I liked the one from Red Dragon. Nice reference that will leave an evil smile on your face.

That Batman one was so good, it's not funny.

The Matrix one rocked.

SuperMan in space looking at earth

Spidey anyone?

But my fave has got to be (you knew it was coming)...Blade I

After decimating the jerks in the Temple he get's the coolest frame everseen by my young eyes. Head down, sword in snow, snowing, night, Russian backdrop, "Catch you at a bad time.".

What did he do next, when he entered the vampire club.

Show them who's boss Wesley. Show them all, show them.

Thanks man. I do what I can with what I got. Blade definitely had a badass ending. Some other movies would be Spawn, Escape From L.A, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Heat, and Blade II.

Gandollum
07-06-2003, 12:04 AM
ooooh, i forgot one of the best endings ever would have to be Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. They're great.

Hitman
07-06-2003, 12:08 AM
^ Yeah good mentions. After I saw Reservoir Dogs, I had that ending stuck in my head for days.

Marvin
07-06-2003, 12:08 AM
Tie for second on my list between Spidey swinging, Neo flying, Batman looking amazing.

All to cool music.

Still Bats and Spideys endings were taken right out of the comics so I've got to give them considerible mention seeing as how I collect comics.

Did you like Spawn's ending?

Marvin
07-06-2003, 12:11 AM
can't remember. what was the last thing seen. That's what matters right?

Hitman
07-06-2003, 12:12 AM
Yeah pretty much. He was basically standing on a ledge above the city with his cape blowing through the wind in pure dramatic fashion. It was a scene taken straight from the comicbook. So dark and haunting.

Marvin
07-06-2003, 12:15 AM
I think I remember that. I prefer Batmans less CGI, and more citycape(with bells in the score and the batsignal shining) ending with kinda the same theme.

Still, the cape looked awesome.

Hitman

I liked the ending of the first Matrix right up until Neo started flying. I don't know why, but I didn't think it fit in.

I thought The Empire Strikes Back had a great ending. Try and imagine seeing it for the first time back in 1980, the pre-internet spoiler days. The double whammy of Vader's revelation and the Han Solo cliffhanger woulda knocked you for a loop.

yea what she said about The shawshank redemption.

Also liked the endings for "seven" and "fight club"

And the great bitter sweet ending of "one flew over the cuckoos nest"

The Batman ending was cool too and the recently released t3 ending too.

Id have to go with an ending that really put a smile to my face.. its been mentioned before because it leads right into the next movie. ''Red Dragon'' I liked how it ended.. everything was perfect and you know what comes next.''Silence of the lambs''.
There are so many to name but I thought Id name one that put a smile on.

The Quiet Earth (1985 - New Zealand) Won't give ending, since most people haven't seen it, but here is basic plot.....man wakes up one morning and everyone on Earth is gone....eventualy finds a couple of other people (99.99999% of world's population has just disappeared).....he's a scientist, figures out what has happened, attempts to rectify situation.......

I like how at the end of Spider-man, Harry tells Peter that he's the only one he's got left (some **** like that) and how he hates spiderman. And then you see Peter walking off while speaking off screen. Amazing ending! Really made you care for the character.

Hey what about the end of Fallen with Denzel Washington.

"Like I said, let me tell you about the time I almost died."

Or how about the ending of ID-4. Who didn't feel like standing and singing the National Anthem...or even The Patriot. (the Mel Gibson movie not the Steven Seagal flick).

Then of course there is the ending of The Music Man with Robert Preston.

Basic had a good ending as well.

Worst Ending ever? Well that has to be City of Angels.

Becuase if it wasn't I could name a whole lot more.

Still, I'd prefer it if it was about the final image or sequece.

If it's about the final image then add T3 to the list.
If it's about the ending then add T2 to the list.(as well as The Ring)

Well the ending of Fallen where Denzel is speaking about the time he almost died and you see the cat at the same time implanting in everyones mind that the "demon" is telling the story and that ultimately the bad guy lives. I also thought about the another ending where the bad guy gets away with the crime and that is the end of Swordfish where the boat blows up. Another good ending.

I think the best endings are ones that stick with you. Either because you are then dying for a sequel, are completely satisfied, they pulled a fast-one on you, or were just overall incredible- ones that make you say Wow!
Memento (after it your jaw drops and stays dropped)
The Ring (only because it affected me so much, not because I actually liked it)
FOTR (strangely satisfying for a fake ending...I made a promise Mr. Frodo, a promise)
of course The Sixth Sense (i already knew though so it was kinda spoiled)
The Others (gave me chills even though sixth sense had already done it )
Frequency was pretty cool
X-Men (can't actually remember it at the moment but I know I was like "when are we getting a sequel? years!")
Matrix
Dragonfly and High Crimes (though somewhat predictable)
MULAN
Black Hawk Down (only cuz you find out blackburn's ok)
Moulin Rouge (cuz it made me cry)
A.I. (still confuses me...did he actually become alive?!)
POTC (cuz Orli looked like a musketeer)
Minority Report
So many more...think of them later

Apocalypse Now must be one of my most favorite endings to a movie. Starting right at the point where Capt. Willard rises eerily from the water, with his face completely painted, still gives me goosebumps. And the rest, of course, is open to nice metaphorical analysis.

FOTR and TTT (both had no real endings, but, unlike reloaded's suckass excuse for an ending, they had beautiful and great final moments which didn't make one feel empty like something was lacking)

resident evil (the movie wasn't that good, but it was better than i'd expected)

matrix (the film builds to a stunning conclusion, except for that part where neo flies. it didn't add anything to the film)

bruce almighty had the sappiest ending ever, u thought it was gonna be funny but it was all serious. Not enough comedy and too much sentimentality.

I can't believe, after all this time, I forgot to mention the ending to The One. "I'm Ulah. I am nobody's b****!". That was one of the coolest endings as Jet Li is fighting all those thugs to Papa Roach's Last Resort while the camera is zooming out to reveal the endless line of them.

That was the bomb. I just watched it Friday. I still crack up on that:applaud:

Mortal Kombat (that one was cool, i gotta admit)
The others- "This house is ours...this house is ours"
Blair Witch Project ( I didn't like the movie itself but the ending had me looking over my shoulder when i was on my computer at home)
Silence of the Lambs
Sixth Sense
Scream 2 with Neve and Courtney looking like a couple of Linda Hamiltons shooting at the killer, totally cool. "Just in case"

The Matrix's ending was MADE by "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine. It gave Neo walking out of the phone booth an extra quality that just rocked.

ahh, i'm incoherent tonight.

80-85% of the ones mentioned are very good. However, I think the one the floored me the most is, "To Live and Die in LA"!

**HIGHLIGHT TO READ**
Where the star of the movie, CSI's Willaim Peterson, dies at the end. I cannot think of a single movie where the star is killed. Truly unexpected!

The god of all movies (and ending) is End of Evangelion ...
I was sitting on my couch... I couldn't move for about one minute... I was just sitting there, my head was empty, without any thoughts...

The movie is PERFECT, if I'd say, I love it... that won't be enough...

Watch the series "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and the movie "End of Evangelion"... it's gonna change your mind....

Ironically, that is not the same ending as the book. When I read the book I was always miffed that they didn't have a more detailed reunion at the end. I always felt the end of the movie helped fill that little void in my soul

Also Memento -- great ending -- I love those sudden realization parts -- Vanilla Sky was cool like that as well
