A History of Violence (2008)

Terrific film that's more or less an art film disguised as a thriller. I believe it's a study of the nature of violence, what it solves, and how it can effect an entire world. Superb acting from the entire cast. Cronenberg has a knack or those quick and disturbing action sequences that stay with you for quite some time. It questions your inner-demons, and how the past always comes back to haunt you.

Revolutionary Road (2008)

I thought this was an outstanding acting piece. Felt like a cross between AMC's Mad Men and Mendes' best picture winner American Beauty. Although the plot is nothing new, it's engaging, deep, emotional, and very real. With powerhouse performances by DiCaprio and Winslet, Revolutionary Road is a Shakespearean tragedy clothed in the robotic lifestyle of suburbia America during the 1950's.

With the exception of In Bruges, this is my favorite comedy of the year. Woody Allen's script is snappy, witty, and filled with life. I believe it shows the two polar extremes regarding love. Bardem and Cruz are excellent here while Rebecca Hall shines like gold with her portrayal of Vicky. Scarlet is solid as Cristina but perhaps its her not so interesting character that seems to put her at the bottom of the totem pole. Much like in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, theres a lot more going on here than meets the eye. An intelligently written and directed drama/comedy from Woody Allen, right on par with his recent success in Match Point.

This is an odd fantasy epic coming from the talented David Fincher. I rather enjoyed Fincher's storytelling and the originality behind F. Scott's tale on a man who ages backwards. Emotionally exhausting, visually stunning, and portrayed to perfection indeed makes The Curious Case of Benjamin Button one of the better films of the year.

Resident Evil: Degeneration - 7/10 -- A pretty decent movie. Better than any of the movies, I might add, since it revolves around you know... the REAL Resident Evil storyline. Not this Mila BS that's been plaguing our big screens for the last several years. Loved the visual effects work on this one as well as the very nicely done CGI. It had that Final Fantasy feel to it. No, not the bastardized movie that came out early this decade, but the Avent Children one.
