What Film/s Did You Watch Today?

Well, if you want to see overtly campy in that bad way, then by all means go ahead and see them. However, you'll be treated to some of the most corny dialogue, cartoonish action sequences and mediocre acting you're likely to see in a film ever.

You're already familiar with Mr. Freeze's line in "Batman & Robin": "Let's kick some ice!", are you not?

However, at least I'll have both "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" to cleanse myself of Schumacher's films in the same day Wednsday.

I'd like to think I've suffered through worse. Unless you're telling me this is worse than Howard the Duck (quack-fu?), Judge Dredd (did he steal his costume from the Power Rangers?), or Battlefield Earth. Plus it has Arnold in it, and I always laugh at his dopey one-liners. Ever seen Commando? Now THAT is a funny movie. But I won't lie, I'm actually looking forward to both movies mostly due to the fact I feel like I'm the only one who hasnt seen them.

Just got back from seeing E.T. in the theatre. It is such a brilliant film. Probably one of my favorite kids' films ever and one of my favorites of Spielberg, too. I'd even go and say that it has John Williams' best work, it's just so effective and comes on at the perfect times. Easily the best child acting and cast I've seen. And Drew Barrymore.. just so cute. I can't praise it enough. And seeing it on the big screen made it even better.

Director/Writer Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers) really captures the feel of claustrophobia and the tension of being in tight quarters during the first half of The Descent. Likewise to Hitchcock, he's heavy handed when it comes to symbolism, and doesn't spoil the classic murder scenes by driving them down your throat every two seconds. He perfectly executes the element of foreshadowing in the beginning of the film (hospital scene).

The Descent starts to really shine during its second half, when the Crawlers start popping up. I loved how the Crawlers were a necessary breed of a bat, human, etc. The Blair Witch Camera scene was executed very well by Marshall, as it was very surprising and scary. While the Crawlers start attacking and the girls split up, the Sarah vs Juno plot line starts to take center stage. This plot was great because it ultimately showed that once you put humans in a dire straits situation, their behavior starts to dramatically change. Towards the end we see the character of Juno switch from arrogant to brave friend while the other girls that are left go from trustworthy to wanting to leave Sarah for dead.

Furthermore, these characters are not cardboard, one dimensional female damsel's in distress you find in other horror movies nowadays. The Descent is so effective with characterization, that it could be seen as a character study of Sarah (Shauna MacDonald). Her subplot is one of my favorite parts of the film, and keeps your attention from the opening reel.

The Descent is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. In fact, it's not just a horror, but can work as a drama or suspense film as well. There's so much more I could say about this film than I've already said. I wish I had seen it in theaters. As a final note, I'm eager to see what director Neil Marshall comes out with next.

Haha, yeah. To most other people, it may be average, but what really made the movie such an action classic for me was the chemistry between Connery and Cage, plus the really good humor. In a way, it never took itself too seriously.

It was funny because I had just watched James Cameron's "The Abyss" before it, and it starred Ed Harris as well as the marine in "The Rock" that refused to surrender (he's the Reese guy from the original Terminator) only they had a role reversal of being the bad and good guy.

The Abyss is alright, I really just watched it to complete my James Cameron viewing (excluding Titantic, yeah I know) but I thought it'd be more like Aliens, and it couldn't be any farther from. Still good though.

And I never got around to that one. And does Harris play a cop in it? He always seems to play a cop and do a good job doing it.

Haha, yeah. The only reason I watched it was because a few years back I said Envy was the worst film I'd ever seen (I was young and naive, I've since seen many worse than that). Dracula recommended watching Manos, and I kind of forgot about it. Then the other day I was browsing around the video store when I saw it and the memory came back, so I checked it out. What a horrible, horrible, horrible mistake.

Personally, it wasn't my cup of tea. Though as I said I went into it thinking it was a comedy. Except if you count the expression on their faces when his bro/sis knew who his girl was. That's about the only time I laugh.
