**CONTAINS SPOILERS**
Ok, once you get a grasp on the story, its not all that confusing, once you understand what the plot of the movie is. But that hardly makes it that much better a film. The biggest problem, in my mind, is that the dream sequence takes up the first 2 hours of the movie, while the reality takes up only 3o minutes. If it were the other way around, and we had a more indepth character study, rather than some surreal parody of TV movies, than perhaps this film could have been better, but I think that might be asking a bit too much from Mr. Lynch.

PS. somebody needs to tell David that weird, ambient, background music cannot save a film.

Kill Bill Volume 1 - I agree with Lexi, this movie was bad ass although I was a bit disappointed. When I see a Tarantino movie I expect it to be just that but it lacked a lot of dialogue that is to be expected from Quentin.

Today I saw two films on the big screen.

"Lost in Translation"
3(maybe 3 1/2) STARS(out of 5)

The biggest problem that I have with the film, is that we don't get to spend enough time with the two characters together. We see Bob and his lonelyness, and we see Charlotte in her lonliness. But I didn't get to see them together enough for me to believe that they 'loved' each other as much as the ending tells us they did. And all this is is poor direction. Maybe not poor, but the choices that the director made hurt the film, and prevent the film from getting me involved in the characters.

Good acting, a nice story, but overall its not as good as it could be in the hands of a more skilled or experienced director.

"Masked and Anonymous"
3 STARS(out of 5)-add an extra star if you are a Dylan fan.

This was a funny film, that mocks it self, it mocks Dylan, and it mocks the mainstreams ideas about Dylan and music in general. It falters a bit with the storyline, and it is perhaps too long. But there are lots of good things going for it, like great performances by Goodman, Lange, Bridges, Cruz, and Kilmer(in order of most screen time to least), it has some very humerous moments, and it has Bob Dylan and his terrific band, plus lots of great cover versions of Dylan songs, all throughout the film.

In the end what hurt the film most, is that it was shot in 3 weeks, and it was written and directed by people who have never written or directed before.
