Serenity:
This movie was anything BUT mediocre. It had what a good sci-fi flick should have: likeable characters you can connect to, a kick-ass villain, a good, clever plot, great visual effects, a witty and humorous script, and a helluva lot of action.
It mocked cliched lines without it being cliche (For example: "You wanna be captain of this boat?" "Yes!" "Well.... You can't.) and paid tribute to old samurai and western films without it being overwhelming and cheesy.
With never having watched the Firefly series, I honestly say this is the first sci-fi film I've enjoyed watching as much as I enjoy watching Star Wars.
Great job to Mr. Whedon, the cast and crew, and here's to a sequel which can't be here soon enough! 8,5/10

Parts of The Great Raid -- 7/10; the only parts I really saw were the actual raid and the aftermath, i.e. the last 30 minutes or so, so if it was bad from start to finish, I didn't notice.
Four Brothers -- 8/10; intense movie, but I thought it was worth it. Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of my favorite up-and-coming actors.
The Island -- 5/10; my mother's rental choice, i.e. I never would've watched it if she hadn't rented it.
