Wow. This movie blew me away. A very dark and grim tale of how soldiers develop dehuminized personalities at their boot camp through one very pissed off drill sergeant, which i might add is a sensational performance by R.Lee Ermey, but i guess he didnt have to do anything really out of the ordinary, he was a marine drill sergeant anyway. It's kind of like Eminem playing himself pretty much in 8 Mile.

The final boot camp scene involving Pyle and the Seven-six-two millimeter, Full metal jacket gun is i have to say a very well done scene. Vincent D'Onofrio gives one helluva scary face, and when i watched this at night and saw his face, it sent shivers down my spine. It really was a sensational scene, as i remember the first time we saw Pyle, and how he couldn't stop laughing. then he transforms into that. very bone chilling.

Overall, a sensational movie about the Vietnam War and the training soldiers endure to get them into killing mode, which well deserves to join my top 30.

You didn't like the podrace? I liked Jake Lloyd. The problem with him was his lines, it's not like Jake sat down and wrote the stuff. Lucas is the one who wrote the "Yippee!" and other various bad lines in the script. The Gungans were OK in my mind. They were better when they weren't talking though.

The podrace seemed as though it was *made* to attract audience. It served no further purpose. And he seemed too much of a family movie kid actor for my liking. I would have liked someone like Freddie Highmore as Anakin.
Anyway, there are further things I didn't enjoy about the first episode; mainly it was because it didn't *feel* like Star Wars. It was all shiny and coolness and fancy queens and palaces and clean starfighters. It didn't have the grittiness space should have; it didn't have the scum of the Mos Eisley cantina; it didn't have Han's wisecracks.
The film's strong point was one: Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon. He made me feel like a little kid watching Sir Alec Guinness being the wise old Ben Kenobi for the first time.

It's just a matter of principle, I guess. In my head, the idea of a SW starship is fixed with it being dirty and battered, not shiny like a toy by Hasbro.

I loved I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, its one of my favorite scary movies and I was really pumped for the sequel. But I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER was a crock of ****! What a SCREAM 2 rip-off! Extremely dissapointing. This could have been a great sequel but the script was just horrible!
