Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - 10/10
As entertaining as movies get, with the best fight scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Tops Hero is every category (yes that includes cinematography, which is more than just filming actors in breezy slow motion).

City of God
2 and a 1/2 Stars (out of 5)
This film's first major flaw is that the whole basis of the film is a lie. The setting of this film, the brazilian favelas, or slums, look like Beverly Hills compared to what the slums are really like(check out the Documentary on the DVD to see the reality.). Secondly, and I suppose more importantly for the film itself, is the fact that the story doesn't actually go anywhere. An interesting device, much like another film that I recently viewed, "Hero", the actually in the film is only about a few hours long and takes up about 10 minutes of the film. This storytelling device in which an event is introduced at the begining of the film, is supported by flashbacks up until the final climax is interesting, and can indeed work, but what is required to make such a story device to work is an actual interesting story in between the begining and end of the film which is the 'real time' story. And that is what this film lacks.
Ultimately this is a gangster, not mobster, but street gangster movie about bad azz thugs who kill for fun. More or less, the actual reality in Brazil is slightly more complex but we've already established that the reality portrayed in the film is in fact a huge lie. The story follows of 2 main characters, neither of which are very compelling, or deep. Keep in mind that the film is only 2 hours long. Also, the film is populated by many characters, who are actually interesting(maybe the should have been main characters), but theses characters are not in the movie(or living long enough) for us to really get to know them; but on the other hand, they are in the movie for more than long enough for them to derail the film's main stories.
The film's cinematography is good at times, and at others its either cliched and ordinary-neither of which impress me. The actors do their part, but the screenwriters and directors don't. Ultimately I was very disappointed at what Ebert called "One of the best movies you will ever see", and what Hollywood deemed the best foreign film of the year. Not necisarily a bad movie, but not worth mine or your time, either.
Hero
3 Stars (out of 5)
Not horrible, and it did have some nice camera work, but ultimately boring and not worth my time. I was able to understand the story, but not able to understand why such a narrative device was used. Not typical kung fu action(which in itself isn't necisarily a bad thing), but it was typical of today's crop of directors who more often than not, just don't get it. The main thing that this film suffers from is that in the end I am left asking why wasn't so and so the main character. This is something that happens a lot and shows a sloppiness in the direction of the film. Certainly it would take more care and time to make, and it would probably be a longer kind of film, and ultiamately less palatable to the mindless masses, but if better care were taken by the people who help to make movies these days, we would have more good movies, and less movies period-I am in favor of both.
The Elephant Man
4 Stars (out of 5)
Probably Lynch's best film, before he started making movies only for his own pretentious self and his pervous cult following. Outstanding pacing, camera work, writng, direction, acting, you name it. An all around excellent film that is deepl humanistic, realistic, and moving; rather than the normal boring, uninvolving, sap crap that we normally see.
Kill Bill Vol. 1
4 Stars (out of 5)
A film that showcases all of Quentin Tarantino's strengths as a director.
Kill Bill Vol. 2
2 Stars (out of 5)
The sequel that, in turn, showcases all of Q.T.'s weaknesses in a glaring, ugly way.

All 3 are Bela Lugosi movies, with One Body being the best one. It's a dark comedy and pretty funny. It looks like the movies were transferred to DVD from video tapes, the movies are in black & white and the blacks look more grey than black. There are lines and other marks in the picture as well.

Mindhunters is a good movie. I haven't seen the new ladykillers yet but i intend to.
Yes it is. The ending took rating down little bit but definetly on my DVD wishlist.
The Ladykillers was good but I think that Marlon Wayans was the weakest link in that movie.

A really good cowboys vs dinosaurs movie. The stop-motion special effects are excellent, especially the roping of the Allosaur, even though it looks blue. The Jurassic Park films drew a lot of inspiration from this movie.

Would rate higher if they had gotten themselves a different actor for Victor (I mean really, all I pictured was a guy who will play his song naked on christmas eve if he sold enough albums), revamped the hybrid (although the werewolves were cool as hell). The simpering male that was to be the hybrid could have been a little stronger too.
Maybe I rated this too high :P But the special effects were good, costuming was great (if you look past the matrixy style of the vampires)

I guess you wern't a fan of it either. It was ok but not that much I gave it a 6/10 but mostly because i respect the way they filmed it. It got kind of boring in some parts and the ending sucked. They had a good idea but it just didn't work out.

This was the original black and white movie and it's really good. It brought back fond memories of the spoof on the Simpsons. :) The episode where all the kids in Springfield are put on curfew and when they are caught, the lights make their eyes glow. Plus there was the movie spoof "The Bloodening" earlier in the same episode.
