The Manchurian Candidate(2004) ****

It started out slow, but its complexity was intriguing(sp?) and it was well-made overall. Great performances from the entire cast.

I'm a fan of M.Night's last three films but this film was a complete mess. The story was poorly done(as well as boring). Scene were just thrown on the screen in random order without any real connection to the previous scenes and the twist in the last act devoid the story of any reason for exsisting. Also, the acting and dialogue was completely lifeless, with Bryce Howard giving the worst performance in the film.

Overall, I was completely disappointed by this film. I didn't expect it to be as good as Signs, but I at least expected it to enjoy and I ended up hating it. Worst Film of 2004(so far).

Actually I'd give it a 20. A film I had seen bits and pieces of, and finally got to watch the whole thing. Now I know why it's a classic. It has some of or the best verbal sparring matches in film history. As much as I loved the chemistry Katherine Hepburn had with Spencer Tracy, I'd have to say she surpassed it with Peter O'Toole in this classic film. Also impressive debuts by Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton.
