Yep, CINEMA PARADISO rules....
I just finished watching Fritz Lang's THE BIG HEAT (9/10). Man, I havent seen it in a few years and I forgot just how great the film is and how brilliant Glen Ford and Gloria Grahams performances are. Lee Marvin is also good in a weaker charecter role than he later became famous for. One of the finest noir cop thrillers ever.
Also watched David Cronenburg's SPIDER (8.5/10) today, all I can say is wow. This film offers no answers just tells a story from inside the protagnists messed up mind. tremendous film and Ralph Fiennes' finest performance since STRANGE DAYS
LEVITY (7/10) was my lunchtime film today and though I adored the charecters and enjoyed watching them interact I have to say I was dissapointed with the films resolution. It really painted it self to big of a canvas to ever fill. That aside as I said it is entertaining while it unfolds Morgan Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton Kirsten Dunst and Holly Hunter all make the charecters very watchable.
Also watched MORE AMERICAN GRAFITTI (6.5/10)earlier this morning which though sub standard I still enjoy watching from time to time.

These are films ive watched over the past few days.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines- (8/10) Good movie although not up to the standards of T2.
The Hulk- (7/10) Surprisingly odd movie this one. I don't know if Ang Lee was the best choice to direct. I found the effects to be overall very good specially in the Hulk vs the army scenes!
A Nightmare On Elm Street- (8/10) Just watched for the second time. Very good horror movie that proves Wes Craven can be a great director. Freddy Krueger is a fantastic creation.
Taxi Driver- (9/10) Absolute classic! De Niro is amazing as Travis Bickle and the dirction is outstanding by Martin Scorcese.
Requiem For A Dream (9/10) - Speachless!
Office Space (8/10) - Watched for the first time and I'll be watching it again. So many funny moments. Lawrence is a Dude!
Sleepy Hollow (7/10) - Depp is great as the incompetent Ichabod Crane, though Walken was a terrible choice to play The Hessian.
Blood Work (4/10) - Its time for Clint to cash in his chips, I'm afraid.

Solaris: 3.5 stars, good story, good acting, good FX, but it was missing something....not bad though
The Pianist: 4 stars, great direction, great acting, excellent depiction of the Holocaust. A Brutally violent and honest film........didn't hide from anything. A good emotionally-character driven movie. But it was long.........Excellent
out of these The Pianist was the best, with Solaris being close.

The Maltese Falcon is a film noir, made in 1940(or was it 41 or 42), anyway, it stars Casablanca's leading actor, Humphrey Bogart. Its a great mystery/thriller. Humphrey plays a private eye, who gets caught up with people you don't want to get caught up with, who are searching for a very special Falcon statue...
The Bicycle Thief, if I am not mistaken, is usually cited as the begining of the Italian Neo-realism movement, and is probably Vitoria De Sica's greatest film. In 1964, Stanley Kubrick, John Houston, and a few other of america's finest directors ranked it as the second greatest film ever made. Marlon Brando said that its the perfect example of what can be captured in front of a camera, and what so rarely is. Arthur Miller said its everyman's search for dignity, its as though the soul of a man has been photographed.

Are you kidding? The original "RoboCop" is a modern classic! Almost up there with the original "Terminator", IMO. The two sequels stank, though. RC3 may be the worst film of the 90's.

They're opinions. A majority of people tend to watch films they will enjoy, or know they're going to enjoy. Thus why you see more high scores than you do low. Im the same way unless it's the first time ive seen a film, havn't seen it for a long time, or someone made me watch it. Then theres a chance i'll give it a crap score, which I have several times.

Had a nice little mini marathon last night- saw a few good ones.
Neil Jordan's THE GOOD THIEF(8/10) this remake of Jean Pierre Melvile's BOB LA FLAMBUER is quite inspired. One of the few remakes worth seeing IMO. Nick Nolte ois in top form and all the cast are faultless. As with all Neil Jordan's films the cinematography is fabulous and the musical score really meshes with it to create an atmospheric and moody air around what transpires. A great little heist film that is must see for fans of the genre.
SECRETARY (8/10)- Funny, dark and original are three words that best describe this quirky offbeat love story. I adored the performances and the script, understated cinematography allows the viewer to slowly fall in love withj the charecters. What begins as a somewhat taboo love slowly morphs into a beautiful romance.
CONFIDENCE (7/10)- Ed Burns is great in this one and Dustin Hoffman is also a welcome addition. Racheal Weisz is apt as teh sauccy femme in the piece and Paul Giamatti as usual steals teh show. The bright colourful cinematography makes this film at all times visually watchable. The script has some great dialogue and aside from a few plot holes the story itself is quite inventive, but sadly prdictable. Still you can do far worse in teh Heist genre than check this out..

Once Upon a Time in America: A very long and sometimes boring film, but it's Wood's performance which shines here and their are a lot scenes in the film which are well done and interesting. OUATIA is probably the weakest mobster films out there, doesn't come close to Godfather, Godfather part 2, Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface, Gangs of New York, Road to Perdition or even the Untouchables. 7.0/10
Next film: Glengarry GlenRoss

Besides the fact, and I don't mind, that a rating of 10 out of 10 is more plausible, and has been what everyones doing, but I can understand the need to be different.
But besides that, your post didn't make much senes with your final result of 3.5 out of 5. A sum up: "It was a fantastic, intelligent comedy! 3.5 out of 5!"

Today I watched
John Huston's THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER (8.5/10) with George C Scott, Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis & Kirk Douglas to name a few. Seen this oen a couple of times before, it always remains fresh and IMO is one of Huston's finest works. Great mystery set in the English country side. Breathtaking cinematography and all performers are in top form.
Sam Peckinpah's CROSS OF IRON (8.5/10) again one Ive seen before but never really tire of. Im a massive Peckinpah fan and this one stands as a great war film and bold for choosing the German angle. James Cogburn and James Mason are both excelllent and as usual teh whole film feels very down and dirty with the gritty surreal Peckinpah touch. Any self respecting fan of war cinema should rush out and check this bad boy out.
