Signs

Let me first say that I am not a tremendous fan of M. Night's. I mean, I like his work and all, but the only thing that really made my socks roll up and down was "The Sixth Sense". I saw "Unbreakable" in the theaters and didn't really enjoy it. I didn't get a chance to see "Signs" in the theaters but I bought the DVD anyways. Upon first viewing, I thought that the movie was a drag. But when I watched it again today, I'll have to admit that I enjoyed it a good deal more. He's still no Speilberg though.

Nicholas Nickleby. 2002 version.

This one caught me by surprise. I checked it out from the library expecting a light-hearted romp, but it turned out to be a very emotional and powerful film. I'm quite fond of it now. I'd give it about 9.5/10 or maybe even a 10. I'll need time. But I do recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

You know, I'm really TRYING to like Vin Diesel, but his choice of scripts puzzles me. I don't know how to not enjoy SW's. Even the prequels, but the dialog(particularly between Anakin and Padme) is so grossly contrived that it makes this movie(IMO) worse than it really is. The fight between Obi wan and Jango was awesome. The battle on Geonosis was tight. When Anakin got pissed because his mother died was beautiful. The overall scheming and planning of the Emperor is legendary, but that doggone dialog is more annoying than Jar Jar on his worst day.

Average of whole movie: 9/10

I dunno, somewhere I got the impression this movie was a "bad" movie. No, if you were expecting Pulp Fiction, it is an anticlimax but the movie is not at all bad. Grier and Forster are great, and Jackson has some good lines. Fonda is eye candy, and DeNiro is funny by doing little.

Doctor Zhivago (1965) - 7/10. A failed masterpiece, I would describe it as. I just felt it lacked the grittyness the story should have had. I never really felt like I knew Zhivago. Why did he have that affair? Why did his poetry have such an effect on people? But still, fantastic production values make this very watchable.
