Definitely depressing, the Alien optical effects look absolutely awful and the dialogue is, at times, repetitive, but a very good film, with hints at the visual brilliance director David Fincher would later display in Fight Club.

The Usual Suspects: 10/10

What a fantastic movie. Well-acted, well-directed, well-scripted. Absolutely brilliant. Gabriel Byrne and Chazz Palminteri give great performances, but Spacey's is the real knockout. Funny, smart and right-on-the mark. This was the second time I'd seen it, and it played even better than before.

The ending hits all the right beats, in the right order. There are tons of fabulously quotable lines --

"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."

"How do you shoot the devil in the back? What if you miss?"

"You think you can catch Keyser Soze? You think a guy like that, comes this close to getting caught, and then sticks his head out? If he comes up for anything it will be to get me. After that...my guess is, you'll never hear from him again."

"Keaton once said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him." Well, I believe in God. And the only thing that scares me...is Keyser Soze."

"And like that -- he's gone."

And, of course, the simplest and most important one...

"Who is Keyser Soze?"

Brilliant filmmaking. The DVD's also good, with MGM having created a great documentary featuring all seven of the key players, Byrne, Del Toro, Baldwin, Pollak, Palminteri, director Bryan Singer and Kevin Spacey. That gets a 10/10 from me also.

It's not really my thing, I enjoy subtle comedys for the most part, I watched it to see what all the buzz was about. all the crazeyness was amusing for about 30 minutes and then it was getting old for the next half hour, then in the last 30 minutes it was like a chain of puns, it would have been 3/10 based on my enjoyment, but I decided to give it a hndicap since It really wasn't my genre at all, and was probably the only movie to even remotely pull this type of humor off for me.
