Well, I was going to joke about how lame a contender futurama is against the simpsons, but then hardly any show short of the honeymooners or seinfeld would provide competition.

anyway, i vote the simpsons, obviously.

Tough choice, but I'll say L&O, much more topical and likely to be around longer, even if there is a major cast change every other year.

Law & Order. No other show has been on as long, with such quality production and acting, while being as topical, through so many cast changes.
CSI is a good show, but L&O wins, IMO.

Incidentally, I would have voted for CSI. Law and Order USED to be my favorite show, but now Lenny Brisco's the only character left that I like.

Seinfeld. Seinfeld will be remembed long after Friends, even though I enjoy that show as well. It was like the Pulp Fiction of T. V. Shows in that it inspired countless imitators.

Heh .. see I thought this may be a hard decision for some of you.

I think I would have to go with FRIENDS simply for the fact that it makes me laugh more than Seinfeld.. but Seinfeld makes me laugh too. Its a close decision for me.

That's such bull. Basketball made me laugh more than Some Like it Hot, but no person in their right midn would say Baseketball was better. Likewise, it's irrelevent if Friends made you laugh more, if Seinfeld is better.

I'm not saying it definitely is, just that you shouldn't make your decision based on enjoyment, you should base it on quality. After all, this thread is to determine the BEST tv show, not the most enjoyable.

Well I have to disagree. If a show doesnt make you laugh, why would you say its better than one that does. Obviously if you enjoy the storylines and the characters that would justify your decision to vote for that show. Not what SOCIETY deems is best.

Why would you? Because something completely dumb and unoriginal, like Wrongfully Accused, may make you laugh more than Airplane did, but the jokes were not as funny or clever as Airplane. There's more to a good comedy than whether it makes you laugh. Funny and unoriginal is not as good as funny and original.

I strongly suspect that you should take intent into account. Some comedies are intended to be wry, make you think, tongue in cheek comedies, as opposed to roll on the floor belly laugh comedies. Either can be good at what it does, but while you'll laugh more at one, you may enjoy the other more.

As I understand it, the intent of the battle thread is very simple. If both shows were on at the same time, episdes you had not seen, which would you watch?

If you appreciated Seinfeld's groundbreaking, meticulously plotted, turn conventional sitcom's on their ear style, more than the straightforward 'my life is kind of a trainwreck , but so is yours and together we can get through it' journey along with these, generally believable, but in real life unlikely to be friends characters and the haphazard plot complications that infest their lives, pick seinfeld.
