legolas is a great character to watch (not just couse hes pretty fine) but because hes got the moves in battle, an example? Supermount onto brego, being able to kill with an arrow from 200yards, surfing down stairs WHILE firing aroows..... need i continue? but in the books its got to be sam.

in the movies it has to be gandalf .... he is the most powerful dude ever .. aragorn, legolas and gimli are close behind
in the books i think i have to go with sam cos he is just sooo cool ... merry and pippin and eowyn are close second

i'd have to say its a tie between gandalf and aragorn.
i chose aragorn.

I just can't pick....I can't. There's too many things to base it off of. Maybe if you narrowed it down.........no I still can't pick!:D

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
Sauron.
Although only a shimmer of his former self, people still fear him and his name regardless. He is still able to command armys and domineer his enemies into his service e.g. Saruman.
Go the dark nasty! GO!:D

OK, is this Orlando Bloom Legolas (the only person who manages to make elves look cool) we're talking about here or book Legolas?
Either way I choose Gandalf!

Well, it's not exactly Legolas. It's that the actor is quite popular with the ladies. Every girl I know that likes LOTR has a TOTAL crush on Orlando Bloom.
I really could care less about him. I love my Billy Boyd!

I would have voted for Sam and Frodo, but they're my second favorite characters and Pippin is my first. Pippin, Sam, Merry, then Frodo in order of likeness.

Seems weird. We all love him, and can probably relate to him and other main characters, but the smaller ones have quirky characteristics that make them stick out in our minds, I guess.

I can't pick, so I won't vote. Each character has such a distinct personality that there's not one that I can pick overthe other.
Like, on one hand I'd pick Aragorn because he's so noble etc etc, but on the other I'd pick Frodo because I admire him for the taking on a task that is too big for him. I could list a reason why I'd vote for each and every one of those character.
I guess it's a credit to Tolkien that all of his characters are so beloved.

I proudly voted for Galadriel. Why? I just like her because how beautiful Cate Blanchett is playing her and there is something that I like about her character. I was disappointed that she was in the Two Towers for like a minute. But then there is also Liv Tyler who played Arwen whom is also a beautiful actress and liked her character because she was an elf. SO yeah I voted for her, Galadriel. :)

Cate Blanchett did make a very good Galadriel, but are we voting on characters or actors?? Because I'm not so sure many people would have liked Galadriel if maybe someone else had portrayed her badly.

I went with Aragorn after more internal debate than I'd care to admit!
I'd say he's my favorite overall in the movies, however in the book I really like the members of the fellowship equally.
I'll proudly admit to having hopped on the bandwaggon -- actually I even did that late! I'm no stranger to becoming a bit obsessive with epic fiction, or even cult fiction, however :)
Still, I'm new to all things Tolkien -- movies and books -- and have much catching up to do!
Anyway, RE character favorites -- As far as non-fellowship characters go, I'm all about the elves -- particularly Haldir, Elrond, Galadriel. I had just come upon Haldir in FOTR (book) when I saw Two Towers (movie) for the second time. After reading the book, seeing Haldir die (even if it's not in the books, which I assume it's not) was a much more poignant moment than when I hadn't read about him. Even though now I've gotten past the Helm's Deep sans-elves in the books... I still appreciated revisiting Haldir in the films. I just love Aragorn's reaction in when he sees Haldir again. I'll stop with the run on sentences now...

ahhh yes, that is a very good point. Thinking about it legolas and Aragorn always seem to leave Gimli out, eg; when they were tracking M&P and all legolas would say was "come along Gimli"and in fotr when aragorn told him to go a recover his strength before holding a conversation with legolas. gwad, guess its true what they say, twos is company threes a crowd

Aragorn rocks. Enough said. Viggo Mortensen fused himself into Aragorn, so the movie Aragorn is AMAZING. And the novel's Aragorn is just so noble and determined and loyal that he's...just...INCREDIBLE!
Other than that, I'd have to say Gandalf.

i think that sam is played really well, frodo is played pretty well also, but Aragorn, played by Viggo, he just takes the cake hands down. he simply outshines all the other people

PJ made the right decision to put in Viggo instead fo Stuart Townsend

I have to say that in the books my favorite character is Sam. His bravery in ROTK is beyond anything a hobbit has ever done (besides Frodo and Bilbo of course). I'm sure he'll be my favorite in the movies as well once ROTK comes out. But for now my favorite movie character is either Gandalf or Aragorn.

Don't hate Sam for that. He's not like that in the books. He doesn't *hate* Smeagol, he just doesn't trust him -- he sees past his deceptions. Frodo has an abundance of pity for Smeagol because he's a ringbearer, and understands -- in a very small degree -- his pain. He's biased, and as a result, partially blinded. Sam is his concise in many ways, including that.

i have a comment and maybe some of you could help me. In all the interviews in the LOTR DVDs Liv Tyler keeps talking about how she loves filming and how she was in New Zeland for over 2 years and yet her character has only been onscreen for about 10 minutes in the 2 movies. Is her role gonna be larger in ROTK ?cos she appears in the movie posters but her role is so small in these movies.
The Moose
08-29-2003, 10:33 PM
yeah. first, she wasn't here for the full 15 months that elijah wood, sean astin and co were here for. she was only here for stinits, to film certain pieces of the movie, lasting about a month (i think) and then she would go somewhere else, and then a few months later come back
