I think this will be the coolest movie coming from the guys that do “Fast Lane” and “Charlie’s Angles”.
I hope they get some real Hot Wheels guys like Michael Zarnock, Mike Strauss and Bob Parker to at least make a cameo in the film. It would add a little realism to it.
By the way, for those that don't know,
Michael Zarnock is the author of "The Ultimate Guide to Hot Wheels Variations", writes a Hot Wheels guide for "Toy Cars and Models" magazine, and has done a few other Hot Wheels things.
Mike Strauss is the guy who writes the “Tomarts Guide to Hot Wheels” an big Red Line guy.
Bob Parker is the guy who writes the other Red Line guides. Cool guy to talk with.
I think it would be way cool to see these guys in there somewhere!
Anybody else think so?

I just don't understand what this movie could be about. Kids playing with toy cars? Cuz that's about all there is to it.

:applaud: I heard about this on the radio this morning. What I want to know is....how the **** are you going to make a "real" movie about little toy cars? What kind of plot could it possibly have? They're not action heroes..they have no super powers, they have no arch nemesis..they're ****ing toy cars. I love hot wheels. Had many of them as a kid...but the concept of making a movie out of them eludes me.

I don't think you're going to see a bunch of little toy cars driving around ;) It's going to be more like Fast and the Furious, I think, with real cars that look like the Hotwheels ones, but with a fantasy element much like Charlie's Angels. In other words, don't expect another Fast and the Furious.

I mean, do they think that the only way the movie will get notice is to base the cars off of hot wheels cars? If so, maybe they should think of a better movie...

Well, I'm not 100% sure of course. Who knows, that's the feeling I got from what the quotes read. I could be wrong.

I just heard about the idea of the movie on the radio this morning, and that no writer had been hired yet..so I have no clue. You probably know more about it than me.

http://www.comingsoon.net/cgi-bin/archive/fullnews.cgi?newsid1043962905,36702, Hmm..well, it still seems like a silly idea to make a Hot Wheels movie. Seems like it would basically be a Fast and the Furious-type clone. If you take the cars, make them full size, and put them in a "real-world," even if it is fantasy based, I think it would cease to really be "Hot Wheels" and just become another "street racing type movie. Now, if they the bright orange track and stuff....that might be different. ;)

I agree. How does putting racing cars in it make it a Hot Wheels movie? Maybe the cars will start as toys and through some magic, turn into full size cars in order to save the world from some menace. That would be truely horrible.
Keep in mind that we know NOTHING about the plot, so judgement should be reserved.

I know what you mean. It's very hard to reserve judgement on something like this. I just can't understand how it will be Hot Wheels related, besides having cars in it.

Wait I'm still worried. THE GUY WHO DIRECTED CHARLIES ANGLES IS ON IT!!!

Well, being a big Hot Wheels freak, I can see many possibilities here. Maybe some sort of adaptation from the cartoon series from the late sixties early seventies. Bring Jack Wheeler to life and all the other crew. If they can do stuff like in Mission Impossible and Charlie's Angles, I'm sure they can make a Hot Wheels Story.

Well, if it's anything like my old Hot Wheels exploits, life in HotWheels land will probably go something like this....

*screen gets all wavy and dreamlike while some "Deedly doo.... Deedly doo.... Deedly doo" music plays in the background. Suddenly we're in my childhood*

You never see any drivers, because they never get out of the cars. Even the most mundane tasks are done inside the car. You talk to all your "friend cars" by driving up beside them and saying, "Hey, buddy!" Incidentally, all your friends are called "Buddy", while you are also referred to as "Buddy".

You spend the day jumping stuff and crashing, always emerging unscathed without so much as a dent in the paint. Everywhere you go, anytime you start, stop, or turn a corner, your tires squeal, or at least a 'tire squeal' like sound will emerge from somewhere.

Your life will only cease to exist when you're lost in the yard, dropped in the grocery store parking lot, or your axles get bent to the point where your tires no longer rotate or touch the ground.

Well, if a movie like "Jack Ass" can make millions, a movie about Hot Wheels should do well enough. I hear it might be animated.
Let's see, there are only about 15,000,000 (yes, million) Hot Wheels collectors in the US alone. But I guess some of you were playing in Mom's closet instead of being little boys playing with cars and trucks. Oops, did I say that?
Just my opinion from what I see. I thought there were adults on these boards, sorry for the misapprehension.

If that is why they are making this movie, for the hot wheels
collectors, then a stamp collector movie can't be that far away.

Just because I played with Hot Wheels as a kid (which I did), doesn't mean I think they would make a good movie. Hell..I used to play with rocks as a kid. That doesn't mean it would make a good movie. Ooo..or how about play-do? I played with that. Would that make a good film?

I am giving this movie a chance. That's the whole point. I'm just saying that I would like to see how they are going to do it. Cuz right now, I'm betting it's going to be a Fast and the Furious clone, with the Hot Wheels name stamped on it, just to cash in on the merchandising.

Because there is no inherent plot behind the toy. No viable premise for a movie. They were just a toy. Somethings are just that.

As for the idea of a Hot Wheels movie, I'm sorry, but this just sounds dumb. What did they do? Take the Transformers for example. At least the Transformers did something by changing into robots. They had a purpose, the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. They had characters and an ongoing plot.

What does Hot Wheels have to bring to a movie? Nostalgia. That's it. "Ooooohhhh! They're making a movie about Hot Wheels? I played with Hot Wheels as a kid! I'll go see this movie!" I think this is the desired effect the studio is gunning for. I'm sorry, but it won't work.

I don't know why I am the only "other" posting here. I followed a link from some Hot Wheels post to this site and was looking to see if anybody had any info on the movie.
I just seemed to run into Siskal and Eberts siblings here. I always do that when I am traveling, I find the seedy part of town to ask for directions. Sorry to bother you guys, you're way too cerebral for me.
Enjoy the movies.

I think an epic Legos film would have kids just racing to theaters

The hell with Legos... when are they gonna do a "Hungry Hungry Hippos" movie?

Or maybe Pixar could do "Ker Plunk: The Motion Picture"... a 'Dirty Dozen' type movie about a racially-mixed group of marbles who get trapped in an elaborate maze of straws...
